Bloodstained: being a castlevania fan is a complex relationship

Noooo shit, after getting stuck for a long time I made good progress, found a lot of items and good shards, and stumbled into an optional boss encounter and died before I could save.

Lotta progress lost :frowning:

after being immediately greeted with feet clipping through the floor, enemies clipping through walls, and item bags suspended in mid-air (the worst feeling) i knew speedruns were going to be absolutely batshit.

So it took me 8-10 hours to get to the bad ending, at 45% map completion.

Now to get the other two endings!

I wonder if the gameā€™s as broken on the other two difficulties? The end boss was really easy and Iā€™m way too strong. I mean sure it was just the bad ending boss but stillā€¦ The second boss really was the hardest in the game so far

if you get the ā€˜alchemical bountyā€™ shard and max it out, you get three of any item you craft

nightmare caps you and your familiars at level 1

Oh shit, thatā€™sā€¦really good.

I still need to use the summon that lets you summon a chair to sit on wherever you want.

Whaaat, how many hits would the later mooks even take if youā€™re still level 1. I mean youā€™d probably avoid almost all enemies but still

Btw how do duplicates work in this game? Some npc said something about duplicates enhancing the strength of a shard up to a certain point. How does that work? My best guess is that enhancing shards raises their rank and getting duplicates raises their gradeā€¦

thatā€™s right yeah

for example with the dullahammer head familiar, an extra head follows you for every two grades

Nice.

What I really want is to be able to upgrade weapons though. Because sometimes you find something cool that you want to use for longer than itā€™s usefulā€¦ I love the flying edge for example. Itā€™s got a really cool attack pattern

I just now noticed what happens if you hold up on the dpad

The aforementioned Best Buy pre-order steelbook case for the Switch version has the usual disc holding guts, plus a cheesy plastic insert that fits where the booklet would go and has a little space that doesnā€™t really hold the card very well.

Iā€™ve seen complaints about atrocious input lag on Switch so I guess Iā€™ll get this game on PC insteadā€¦

I had not planned to bother with this game because that old video looked so bad, but this thread (and a discount) convinced me to give it a chance. Iā€™d still rather have sprites, but I find the visual style ranges between tolerable and actually appealing. There are still some graphical weak points for sure, such as the animation when an NPC walks.

But so far, Iā€™m enjoying the game. Itā€™s a little surprising that I just reached the castle and my completion rate is already at 10%. I guess itā€™s not a huge game, but thatā€™s okay. I like what Iā€™ve heard of the music.

I had this impression too, but it turns out to be ginormous. Rooms and large areas end up being a lot more spacious and I forget the math, itā€™s supposedly 1.5x the size of Symphony.

At the end right now with 99.1% percent mappage, only one of the optional bosses is being a true fiend.

carpenter? he was the only one that gave me any trouble. revenant belmont was disappointingly easy to exploit. needed some item crashes

Indeed, what a messy fight. Iā€™ve got a setup thatā€™ll probably do him in eventually. Yeah Belmont was super easy.

Just gotta say that I am really digging this game in the same way Iā€™ve appreciated the GBA and DS castlevanias. Itā€™s a lot of fun!!

Itā€™s not as wild as SotN, but perhaps thatā€™s just because itā€™s expected that there are, like, 100 food items and a bajillion weapons and secrets that donā€™t do anything etc.

Iā€™ve been running around using the Fairy familiar (ofc). Sheā€™s my friend, so I got 9 shards for her and have leveled her up to 7, I think? Gotta get more fairy wings.
