Bloodstained: being a castlevania fan is a complex relationship

anybody wanna trade my ps4 version for like, a switch version or the money for it?

Iā€™m in love with this game. Starting at the title screen already the music is gorgeous. Continues to be throughout. Also love the sound design. The creaking of the ship in the beginning already put me in adventuring mode. I love how lamps, candelabras and the like (also some enemies!) shatter. Itā€™s got a real heft to it and just the right amount of particles fly off. All movement feels responsive and so so right. It didnā€™t look like it in the videos! But it does in-game.

I love that you get fucking kung-fu boots as weapons. From the start I just wanted to kick things all game long. Then I tried out the other weapons and so many feel equally great. I love the whipā€™s delayed action. It feels really great and itā€™s got a unique range, reaching down forward and a little bit behind. It made certain enemies that always got hits in on me trivial. And thatā€™s great, that you actually have different tools for different tasks.

I like all the characters and itā€™s nice that dialog breaks up the game every now and then. Itā€™s never too much so far. Itā€™s so easy to make that annoying, just look at the later mega mans or mighty number 9 (actually, donā€™t look at that one.)

The environments look cool, the graphics in general look cool (controversial opinion I know but thatā€™s my opinion)ā€¦ The game knows how to keep you hooked but Igarashi always knew how to do that. It does it through gamefeel, exploration and challenge. Thatā€™s probably what I like the least about it, that itā€™s a bit too challenging for people like me who donā€™t play games to develop skills anymoreā€¦ Well, I play fighting games but thatā€™s the big exception.

But I wouldnā€™t call it ā€œhardā€ per se. I didnā€™t need more than three or so attempts for anything so far.

I love how much you can customize Miriamā€™s look when you get to that certain character in the game. They paid a lot of attention to detail even though the game came off as sloppy in most of the pre-release footage.

I think thatā€™s my take away for why I like the game, the details. The many little things that make this good. Like how I can make the mini map ridiculously large (maxi map?) so I donā€™t have to open the map screen all the time/get lost all the time.

So far: thumbs up. Feels as good if not better than Aria of Sorrow to me

yeah i thought the last few iga joints stank but this is good

is the 8 bit area an optional post/endgame thing? takes aaaages to kill most mooks for me right now

Iā€™m thinking it is. The Halls of Termination, in general, have a real, uh, Draculaā€™s Castle Keep vibe to it that makes me wary of crossing the boss door in it, unless I wanna get the bad ending.

That area is no joke, though. I eventually tried to juke my way past all the enemies before dying once again and writing it off until later.

Iā€™m lv 30 and got the bad end but am now looking for Mariaā€™s specs / Shaft Equivalent

Itā€™s optional, not really postgame but you might wanna be stronger. I kinda just ran through it to get to the boss since everything took so many hits.

The real kicker is those optional bosses? You have to grind them if you want their shard to drop. Kind of a bummer.

I beat it. 99.50% map completion. ARGH. the hall of behemoths was a pretty dumb idea lol, it just really didnā€™t flow right and just made trying to fill in the map more annoying than it needed to be. i had my fingers crossed for an Inverted Castle 200% type deal since just about everything else in SOTN was referenced or recreated but I guess the ā€œInvertā€ manuever covered it. too bad! the last boss was neat and cool looking and a little more interesting than most of the draculas past. i like that gromel? grovel? i forget, the demon woman, yoinking the Death scythes. was hoping for a vocal ballad end credits theme but thatā€™s alright! i didnā€™t unlock Zangetsu which was surprising, i dunno if thatā€™s going to be added later or if i missed something somewhere.

tldr iā€™m so glad this turned out to be a great game!

How many buttons does this game need?

thatā€™s a weird question but I guess all of them except the stick clicks. If I understand your question right

I mean most of what youā€™re doing is use A to jump, X to attack, Y to use a super, RT and RB to use two more supers/shard powers. LB to backdash. LT is unlocked at some point and lets you quickswap loadouts. Back button for the map. Start button for menu stuff and B button for canceling out of stuff. Why you asking?

I mean what is the minimum amount of buttons my controller would need to have to be able to play this

Would (the equivalent of) a SNES controller work?

I think you could do it with one of those 8bitdo or whattheyrecalled. You need at least one analog stick because you need to be able to aim Miriamā€™s powers. If the 8bitdo has only two shoulder buttons instead of four then Iā€™d say thatā€™s no problem because you can leave off the quickswap button and the backdash, I think. Donā€™t know if the backdash gains some additional use but so far itā€™s been cool but non-essential

Yeah, you could get by with one of those $25 wired 8Bitdo controllers. The game does use the analogs and the shoulders.

Oh shit, have any of yā€™all sat in the seat about halfway down the train?

Itā€™sā€¦well! Give it a shot and, uh, wait.

Thanks, I guess

It doesnā€™t work the first time you take the train so donā€™t stress about it when you get to it. Rather, take the train back and do it then

wwo that second boss sucked. why did he have so much damn health???

Whatā€™s the second boss again? If itā€™s who I think it is then story reasons I guess.

Iā€™ve been mildly overpowered for a while nowā€¦ I didnā€™t do any extra leveling so I guess this is just how itā€™s supposed to be?

Lost a lot of progress anyway because of the traps in the reflector ray area. ā€œMy last save was where?!?ā€ kind of progress. Sigh, I guess itā€™s enough for todayā€¦

so if you were worried that bloodstained was not going to have a bunch of absurd glitches like every other igavania, rest assured that there is an incredibly hilarious way to get out of bounds.

if you use the spinning sword shard, pretty much every boss becomes incredibly easy. well, every boss iā€™ve fought so far

Same, I actually dropped off using it a while in. That you can augment it cheaply to like +7, too.

thereā€™s a nice variety of Extremely Broken Shit it rules
