Bloodborne October/November Book Club

Bloody Born Legends

honestly half the reason the final DLC boss is so hard is that it won’t stop fucking screaming like someone set it on fire and that made it a literal physical test of endurance for me

pretty sure ludwig gave me dreams about discovering a giant ulcer full of eyes on my own neck so thanks miyazaki

the final boss of the DLC is really easy if you’re heavily overleveled because you grinded through the chalice dungeon progression, which is definitely not worth it.

Ok, now i am fighting the Living Failures and I keep dying. I am even using the help of Yamamura! Is there a way to cheese these guys?
I don’t want to grind any more at this point of the game

damage types matter a lot to how difficult bosses are. don’t know what you are using, but arcane (damage-type not the stat) is kind of useless against living failures. they also happen to be resistant to blunt hits, and serrated weapons don’t give you any damage bonus against this enemy type.

all enemies like that are weak to lightning damage tho, so if you have an upgraded tonitrus, lightning paper, or the ability to convert your main weapon to lightning damage through gems, any of these could help. the last point really depends tho, on your stats, the weapon in question and wether you have good enough gems.

edit: just remembered squishy enemies like this tend to take ridiculous damage from stabbing hits. like the squid faces. they take little damage from slashes and hits but a thrusting r2 from the same weapon can kill

this damage type stuff about bloodborne and souls games is a really boring aspect of them but I’ve resorted to all of this stuff when having a hard time

I killed them using the bolt paper! First try
Thanks!

Is it Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower? If so, why is it like a proto-sekiro fight? I haven’t played it yet.

i’m telling you absolutely nothing until you win

i hear this a lot but idk, bloodborne’s heavy reliance on enemy attribute knowledge was one of my favorite things about its combat?

i love that it gives you both options of building strength + skill and just twitch-action-gaming yr way thru or taking a more methodical approach by going full arcane and switching up your weapons, guns, and hunter tools based on the situation. your other stats are low enough you’ll get eaten alive without some weakness experimentation and knowledge of different monster types which helped support the whole “arcane researcher” aesthetic that kind of character would have. it wound up being my favorite soulsgame to run a ““mage”” in because it felt like a different approach instead of just another way to lob projectiles around

that was in part me having a knee-jerk reaction at myself, suddenly becoming self-conscious over how hard i nerded out over it in the previous post. i get legit embarassed that i somehow always get like this in souls discussions

hahah i feel that, these games always get me talking about stat mechanic nonsense even tho it’s not at all what drew me to them to begin with

Still working on her.
In the meanwhile, I have upgraded the Holy moon sword to +10. I like it a lot, it’s very fast. Feels better suited to Maria over the jigsaw, since she’s so fast.

it takes about two hours of being whacked upside the head with a placenta to really internalize the strategy
