I may not be the weeb I used to be but when I was first looking at start of this list my first thought was they could reverse it completely and it would be more accurate.

Also, what the hell is so grand about Cardcaptor Sakura? Never watched it but when ever a list like this pops up it is usually very high up. Is there something I am missing out on?

How can 13 and 14 not have things that are towards 80-100 around them? Guh

Digimon is surprisingly high up. I guess that’s why there’s so many new games.

Is this a popular vote list? From a shonen audience? I wouldn’t be surprised or even all that distraught if we learned that kids only know about things from the past decade

an online poll run by nhk (japan’s bbc equivalent, if you don’t know) over the course of 3 months

so anyone could have voted

2014 8 2015 8 2011 7 2016 7 2012 6 2008 5 2013 5 1999 4 1974 3 1984 3 2002 3 2006 3 2007 3 2009 3 1978 2 1979 2 1988 2 1992 2 1997 2 2010 2 1981 1 1983 1 1986 1 1990 1 1995 1 1996 1 1998 1 2000 1 2001 1 2003 1 2005 1

in case any one is wondering here is the breakdown by year (ties are in chronological order)

awww heck yeah Girls und Panzer !

what’s interesting is how underrepresented the first 5 years of the 21st century are. what was happening in animes then. no good animes were released in 2004

haruhi caused the rebirth of anime

from what i remember, it was a pretty grim time. there’s a few good things (digimon tamers, angelic layer, azumanga daioh are the first to spring to mind), but it was a time of visual novel adaptations and experimental cgi stuff, and “waifu culture” seemed to be even stronger than it is now (in japan at least). that’s why i was so surprised that there’s a clannad entry in the list, that was one of the main vanguards of the worst of the early 00s moe movement, a fad i considered long dead (and pretty different to the modern moe movement. back then, it was all about sad girls dying young from terminal illnesses, now it’s all happy girls doing boring shit)

looking at 2004 on anidb, i can see these shows i would at least say are good, if not necessarily top 100 material: hunter x hunter greed island final, kishin houkou demonbane, ninin ga shinobuden: the nonsense kunoichi fiction, diebuster

which is pretty bleak

yeah, now it’s good

People still really like Code Geass for some reason

I liked Code Geass for the same reason I like Battle Tendency, Death Note, and No Game No Life

so this basically confirms FLCL is an american thing huh

Just like Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Metal Gear and Metroid, yeah.

Bebop is on that list though! Somehow.
