Strange boast?

a plea that people don’t stop reporting bugs because that’s a kind of engagement

see:

We believe flighting is critical to the overall success and satisfaction of players with MCC [Master Chief Collection]. However, in this latest public flight, we had lower than average participation and we are looking to find out why. We are going to be sending out a survey to some of our Halo Insider invitees so we can learn more about why people chose not to join us this time around.

the Microsoft dialect has no language to express this in anything other than passive-aggressive whining

That is an absolutely amazing paragraph.

I think “1000 bug fixes” sounds better to an audience who have been struggling with game breaking bugs since release, but from what I can gather the game still buggy, has new bugs (naturally), but also frees up some people to start noticing that the game’s content and game design sucks. This was particularly exacerbated by the game releasing one of the main weekly end game activities this past weekend: The Mega Hive!

The Mega Hive is single player mode in which you play 8 back to back missions that require you to rotate through only your near-level cap characters, who can only die once each. If all your characters die you have to restart the 8 missions from the beginning. And the 8 missions are just hives, an existing late-game mission type where you just play through 14 “floors” of an AIM base back to back in one mission. But since the game has so little content each floor is just playing the same missions types and maps it uses for all of the other missions in the game, so you’re not doing anything differently from what you were doing already.

People have been glitching into the The Raid over the weekend (called the AIM Cloning Lab - very imaginative) and it looks like it has some of the expected puzzle-lite elements to it, but I can’t imagine it being great overall considering the rest of the game.

Even if the game were to survive a whole year, it needs such a massive a re-conceptualization of what it is that I can’t see SE funding it for how long that would take unless the Avengers name is enough to keep it afloat.

I just want to come back and emphasize that the end game activity for this multiplayer GAAS aimed at the massive casual MCU audience is a single player only mode that requires you to grind all 6 characters to the soft level cap before you can even attempt it.

Like, this had to be a consequence of them not having the resources to make something else in time, right? There is absolutely no way anyone actually thought this was a good idea.

At least I got this sick, iconic Hulk skin. Who could ever forget this seminal Hulk look?

Edit:
Oh yeah, and Google knows the real Avengers news.

Started playing the campaign again (right after Iron Man joins up, sorry to spoil that you can play as Iron Man) and wow holy shit I hate playing as Iron Man.

He’s…not good at melee. Which, OK, it’s Iron Man! But the shooting feels bad, and Iron Man’s movement feels worse.

Like, outside of setpiece moments, is there…every any reason to actually fly around as Iron Man? Other than “it’s faster”? Shooting while flying isn’t fun, shooting while hovering is…fine, I guess.

I dunno. Early goin’ and I’d rather play as Hulk or Kamala D. Luffy.

One of the weird things about this game is how they’ve developed a playstyle for each character but then had to figure out how to give you a skill tree so they lock up character defining traits behind level gates. Iron Man’s shtick is that he has three different project type but it takes a while for you to unlock each one and then build out their movelists. His laser is a crowd control thing since he spins around in circles spraying lasers everywhere, and if you have an elemental perk like Pym you can just shrink entire crowds in a few seconds. I thought his rockets felt relatively nice since it blasts people away but they drain your meter too quickly because they’re the heavy hitter option.

Flying is whatever because the level design has no idea how to make interesting levels that can accommodate flying characters and ground based characters. It can be useful if things are getting too crowded around you or you’re trying to get a line of sight on something far away, and it lets you get around faster on one or two vertical AIM maps. But I don’t recall there being much use for it in combat overall. I know there’s a carpet bomb move with the rockets but I always forgot to try it out because I never fly.

And NPCs with ranged attacks, the most potentially frustrating enemies in a beat-em-up, are ridiculously strong in this game, so flying often exposes you even more.

I feel like part of the reason projectile attacks were made so strong is because melee attacks are trivial to deal with thanks to the game’s lenient dodge system. You pretty much don’t have to worry about melee attacks no matter what they are because almost all of them are just punches. You can just duck under almost all of them, keeping you in place to to keep your pummeling going. Meanwhile projectiles track you very well such that dodging doesn’t always dodge them, laser beams last longer than your invincibility frames and tend to track your dodge very well too, and projectiles tend to be numerous so even if you dodge one you can get hit by another.

Maybe if there were more interesting and expressive melee attacks from enemies then ranged attacks wouldn’t have to be the main threat. Or maybe not give the game the nu-God of War duck-in-place dodge so you actually have to move around more.

It’s been a month since release and the game is still deleting saves, loot drops aren’t functioning correctly, multiplayer isn’t stable, and the The Raid is still not available despite people being able to glitch into it a week or two ago. So I assume the development is on fire and no one knows when anything will be in a playable state anymore. The roadmap is probably a bunch of calendars for each month stapled to a wall in vertical order and and all the content names are written in ice cream so they all perpetually melt down into later months of the year.

I wonder if they’re actually planning to release the next gen version with the consoles or if they can hold it off and do a more stable “re-launch” of the game, whenever that would be.
