ah, good old unsafe string handling meets un-rounded progression curves

I think this is my favorite cutscene in the game because of how unsubtle it is in its function.

This is the kind of thing that stops you from actually engaging with the combat systems. Imagine you have multiple of these targeting most of the time.

But sometimes this game is good. I do like how reactive enemy hit states can be whether on purpose or not, leading to enemies bouncing into each other or ricocheting off walls and off the level. And these can also apply to really strong enemies if you can somehow apply enough force or put them into some state that drastically lowers their “Impact Resistance”.

There are also a couple of wacky effects like Pym Particle damage that shrinks enemies (lowering impact resistance I think) or some sort of anti-gravity effect that makes enemies float in the air.

Combine these two things and you occasionally get weird interactions.

Also this is very good.

This game definitely has too many status effects but shrinky-dink is a good one

Reading this thread is very clearly the best way to play the game

kind of can’t believe they managed to make MODOK look so boring in this… mental organism designed only for being another nondescript glowing robot guy

presume they’re adding more as time goes on but are there really only three named badguys in this amongside a sea of generic mob enemies?? between that and the microtransaction costume stuff it’s so strange to see a “blockbuster” type game (traditional virtues: generosity, lack of restraint) that seems so miserly in obvious ways. like i presume before they can even drop someone like taskmaster in there they first have to clear it with whatever horrible brain trust is scheduling MCU cameos ten years in advance, and it’s not like the comics are short of generic villain of the week goofs.

No way, didn’t you watch the launch stream? All these guys are pulled directly from the comics!

And remember Warbot?

You can fight it too!

When you fight Monica Rappaccini (she doesn’t become designated “Scientist Supreme” until the post-credits sequence) she’s just in a white colored version of the exo-suit in that first screenshot. People datamined the game and first raid will feature Klaw so I guess you can look forward to how they normalize him.

These are the datamined characters by the way, so people assume this is the planned DLC cast. Since you aren’t allowed to play the same characters in multiplayer as someone else in your squad some of these might play very similarly to other characters, which would also help bring down the complexity of design. At least they’re all supposed to be free?

  1. Captain Marvel
  2. She-Hulk
  3. Kate Bishop
  4. War Machine
  5. Peter Parker
  6. Ant-Man
  7. Wasp
  8. Vision
  9. Black Panther
  10. Doctor Strange
  11. Falcon
  12. Mar-Vell
  13. Mockingbird
  14. Quake
  15. Winter Soldier
  16. Scarlet Witch
  17. Hulkbuster (Iron Man transforms into this in his ultimate so I don’t know if there’s something from these datamines that’s leading people to believe this is a completely separate DLC character)

Is there any joy in this game beyond laughing at bad physics? Honestly even v6 seems like a much more exciting iteration of the IP-with-bigger-numbers formula. With scarlet witch as dlc it even ships with less hex

Their destructibles are astounding

This is partly Eidos Montreal so it contains the 2020 version of the Deus Ex: Human Revolution amber & honeycomb offices and interior design

The mission set in a desert town has a full main street, outlying suburbs, and glass tower lobbies as they try to cobble Destiny-style loose roaming before tight dungeons into real-world analogues. It’s wild

The lighting artists’ work is second only to Naughty Dog

The character movelists in isolation aren’t terrible and when they design a campaign mission for a single-player (most are co-op) they can build encounters with few enough enemies that they remain legible and the game works when you can ride the chaos. The Black Widow infiltration mission was pretty good and the first time I enjoyed myself

(what’s v6?)

What’s v6?

“uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh.” I also like how my special electricity projectile blows up in front of my face for some reason.

wow

The way performance degrades on PC feels like a memory leak or fragmented heap to me, it starts hitching more often and longer (from 200ms up to 1000ms) and it clears up if I quit and restart the application

Yeah, if you look at its individual component parts you can see things that could be cool if implemented well in a better game. I too was wowed by the environmental destructibility. Wall slamming an enemy and seeing an absolute ton of debris just break off a wall look really great even though it drops your framerate to 10fps. I was kind of skeptical after watching that Intel PC exclusive grafix ad, but there are an absolute ton of special destruction effects the game throws out during any particular brawl.

The character movesets could be cool in a game designed for them. Eventually, many many hours more than anyone should spend time playing this game, you can finally make capital B Builds that break the game like any good loot game should let you. Except you might only need to spec your skills the right way to do so instead of relying on the loot. And “re-speccing” is free since you can freely change your specialization and mastery skills once unlocked, which I like.

I thought the MODOK boss battles looked neat and I’d like to see more giant villain battles building off that instead of regular guys who just run on the floor and punch you.

There technically are a ton of enemy types, you just can’t tell because they look the same and you deal with them all the same way (just press dodge at the right time).

The idea of having varied character playstyles in a single multiplayer co-op match is ambitious. Then releasing more characters for free is nice.

Back to glitches, 50% of the time Black Widow’s zipline doesn’t animate the reel in and she just teleports to the destination.

I just played a game where none of the health bars on myself or my enemies were appearing.

I tried doing online matchmaking and got two more people almost instantly, so maybe something is getting fixed in the back end now that the weekend holiday is over? But to compensate the enemies got a lot smarter.

I don’t think Captain America’s super soldier body is handling the passage of time as well as we’re all told.

It was a really terrible joke about IPv6 as “IP-with-bigger-numbers”

I love that not only did someone feel they had to literally write “Reminder” in this skill description and explain a combat mechanic, it’s not even a reminder because this skill buried deep at the end of Captain America’s skill tree is the first time I’ve even seen this bit of information mentioned in the entire game.

Everything looking and acting and being written exactly like the movies but the people not being the movie people is extremely uncanny

Ironically I think it presents a better take at Avengers in-fighting than the MCU did. The game takes a logical leap from “bad guys attack during an avengers festival and blow up a city” to a shot of Bruce Banner in a courtroom saying it’s all the avengers fault and they shouldn’t exist, but at least the game commits to this idea of the Avengers viewing themselves as failures and blaming each other. For as shallow a story as it is the character conflicts have more emotional resonance than the MCU’s attempt at the same idea in Civil War, which couldn’t even stick to its premise.

The game actually lets you unlock a lot of the cosmetics by finding a loot drop resource called a Pattern that’s “decoded” at your home base, which was unexpected. I thought you’d have to buy every thing. Check out this sick Epic rarity skin!

Also because the game is so buggy I decoded a Pattern and the game didn’t give me anything.

The skins are…really bad right now. Seems like they have 3 major costumes per character but splitting them into 20+ items with minor color differences makes it look like they’re embarrassed about it and makes their cosmetics shop look really miserly.
