ANIMAL HARVEST

Thanks for the tips! I’m all up to date because I had to to play online with friends a few days ago. I think I just had to get all shops? I just got KK Slider to play at my island today and unlocked the ability to lay tiles around the island (I can’t believe you have to do it manually one at a time, AC players are insane for doing this to their whole island)

After thinking about it today, I think that you’ll unlock slumber islands once you get the terraforming tools and do the tutorial, so you may have it now, or get it after you buy waterscaping and cliff construction.

Would make sense since knowing how to use the terraforming tools is basically mandatory.

There’s no information online about when you unlock it because the majority of people in the games media reporting on the update probably unlocked the tools very close to launch.

Even Nintendo themselves doesn’t explain it, not in their trailers or in their online help webpages that seem to explain everything else as thoroughly as possible.

I guess it’s inconceivable for literally everyone that there’s a guy who only played the game for a few days at launch and then stopped for years

Makes me wonder what a new player experience is like. Are they also locked out of features or is it all unlocked if they just start fresh?

Apparently the hotel is only unlocked after K.K. Slider visits and the player has unlocked the museum.

Finally unlocked the slumber island thing at the same time as the hotel. My progress to unlock it was like:

  • (whatever state my town was before I stopped playing 5 years ago)
  • Nook store expansion
  • built two neighbor houses
  • Built two house expansions (left and right room)
  • KK Slider concert
  • Unlocked terraforming the island
  • Captain island tour opens
  • Hotel and Slumber Island opens

Each of these events were like a day so it took a week for Slumber Island to unlock, goddamn

I haven’t checked it out since 3.0 hit but the official Nintendo dream island is kinda fun. The address is DA-6382-1459-4417

They have (had?) a Mario themed maze area that banked on using the warp pipe, and a bunch of houses showing off the Sanrio and Pocket Camp tie in furniture. Now that the latter is available to everyone it’s a bit less exciting to see what I missed out on. I imagine stuff got switched (finger snap) out with the Zelda, Lego, and Splatoon furniture since. They also had some NYE 2026 stuff offered up in their custom designs as a soft official update too.

Are there any other cool ones worth checking out?

This one would have been, had Nintendo not killed it…

Oh wow, I totally missed out on this!

Reminds me of the real old days when we had the Second Life safari thread.

ROM hack of the Gamecube Animal Crossing that adds in everything from the Japan-only update, the Chinese iQue port, and backports some stuff from Wild World and New Leaf. Also has more gender and skin color options, which is nice.

I was watching this earlier today and it’s so impressive what they’ve done/are doing. There’s so many QOL features they’re backporting that it’d make it hard to go back to the original experience.

Which reminds me, general QOL features I expected would’ve been implemented by now but haven’t, speaking as a Gamecube AC player that’s finally started playing again:

  • text speed options (why does it still make you hold B???)
  • run speed controlled by analog or set as a toggle (why does it still make you hold B???)
  • put things away in storage from anywhere in the world
  • show a character/item silhouettes when things are blocked by foreground objects so I can see myself or fruit/items behind buildings/trees/etc (maybe that’s too advanced and spooky for Nintendo though)

I’ve noticed fishing has gotten waaaay easier now though. Those fish auto-hone in on your lure as long as you throw it anywhere towards their face, even if it’s relatively far. Or maybe my memories about how picky the fish used to be is wrong.

There’s still way too much unnecessary talking for basic functions and the loading for entering buildings is too long even on Switch 2. It makes running into Nook’s store to sell annoying so sometimes I just dump things in the box just so I don’t have to run in there, load, mash to talk to them, and sell (though I only learned recently that you take a 20% loss for selling it in the box, goddamn).

Function NPCs need to shut the hell up!! Even the fucking ATM has unnecessary opening and ending dialogue that makes me mash. It’s a fucking ATM!!! Shut the hell up!!!

this is very funny to see since i just started a new animal crossing gamecube game on my rp5. playing nh again had me wanting to return to the original, since i hadn’t played it since, uh, 2005.

it’s been interesting. slow going. i do like how much more willing it is to be a bit hostile and weird.

well that’s exactly what I asked for upthread so I will be playing this

Did you guys know that if you play New Horizons in English and you’re only playing with other people who have their game set to English, selecting a gender has absolutely no effect on the game whatsoever?

Everyone refers to everyone with they/them pronouns regardless of gender. Selecting a gender only makes a difference for people playing multiplayer with someone playing in languages that have gendered adjectives.

In English they even removed the labels from the gender choices (they’re there in every other language).

Just learned there’s a mod for the Wii AC game too full of good changes and QOL: Animal Crossing: City Folk Deluxe

Quality of life changes

  • Fast text speed is now enforced across all scenarios for a smoother experience.

WHEN WILL NINTENDO LEARN

Anyway I spent an hour yesterday scuba diving in Kappn’s island just to make money and only made 100,000 bells and felt miserable so I think I’m done with New Leaf. Gonna try playing the 3DS game again. I couldn’t find my old save file so I’m just gonna play emulated. If that doesn’t satisfy me, I’ll just keep going farther and farther back until I end up back on the GameCube lol

so you can have ten animals on your island, and eight users, and now regular eight tourists, and someone at the campsite, and someone in the cafe, and ALSO each individual user has a VIP room at the hotel where they can amiibo invite someone so that’s eight more tourists so if you invite resse or cyrus who will always bring each other to the vip room and invite the label sisters over to the cafe and have a switch 2 with twelve individual online visitors it and you have say resseti walking around and you haven’t talked to harv to make him go away and you have the plaza visitor of the day/holiday and may be possible to have 50-60 freaks on your island at once? i wanna see someone maximize it

Remember when the game first came out and there was so much pandemic induced loneliness that a small but loud contingency of players started demanding that Nintendo should “add dating to Animal Crossing”?
