Yeah I can open up or visit to pick them up. I also got an extra peach rug DIY today(pears are my native fruit but this game doesn’t see fit to give me many DIY options for them lol).

…I’m about to lose my goddamn mind.

rock garden woes

When I first came across articles and posts from players who were building rock gardens, I decided to do the same. I had to abandon my first design because I thought I only had five rocks, and my big X pattern would have to be lopsided to accommodate 6.

I started on a second design, but I didn’t want to get blindsided by my own ignorance again, so I researched this whole process as much as I could in advance. Here’s a quirk some articles have omitted: only three rocks can appear per acre. If you want all six to be relatively close together, you’ll need to have them straddle the acre line. Trying to find a layout for six rocks that didn’t let more than 3 show up in a single acre and still left room for my surrounding landscape was a lot more difficult than I expected, particularly since I lucked into having one of my rocks in position already and therefore didn’t want to change its position.

With my layout established, I’d have to now obstruct every valid place for a rock to spawn before I began destroying them. This was tedious, but it took less time than I expected, since all you really need to do is put one custom design out as a shirt on a mannequin for the eight squares around it to be considered obstructed. This method has a further advantage in that you only need to change the custom design you used somehow to instantly clean up all the shirts you’ve put out with that design everywhere on your island.

After my first two rocks were in position, my third showed up on a narrow strip of land I’d overlooked. I broke it and covered the area with shirts.

At some point over the weekend, I got my fifth rock in place; I expected to have my sixth appear on Sunday. However, Sunday came and I still only had five rocks in position. I assumed I must have overlooked another spot and spent an hour scouring my shirt network for any holes where a rock had appeared. I couldn’t find anything, so I had to conclude that I’d gotten my count on Saturday wrong and my sixth rock would show up today.

This morning, I still only have five rocks. The sixth one is supposed to appear in the green square at the bottom of sector C-4:

I’ve checked and re-checked; all 9 squares have no custom designs, and the spot itself is the fourth square to the left of another rock. It’s no closer to any inclines than my northernmost rock is, so clearly there’s some other rule invalidating that square that the YouTubers aren’t aware of. I’m gonna try moving my cliff edge further away, as I can’t see anything else unique about this square, but if this doesn’t work, I’m about ready to cry.

There’s a garden rock item if that helps.

This is one of the worst takes I’ve seen on Kotaku in…weeks? days?

Anyway museum day is very cute and short, not everything needs to be a Big Rewarding Grind folks. I’m just excited to fill an entire wall with fucked up museum trophies.

The plaques you get for Museum Day kick the ass of that weakass pastel wand recipe you get for Bunny Day, even though I’ll never use them either.

And, gosh, my boy Blathers is running that museum all by himself. I’m so proud of him!

My ideal Animal Crossing is just three or four events of varying size every month just to keep things wacky, fresh, and interesting.

I think this was about manipulating placement of the nugget/money-filled rocks to make them more convenient to mine daily. Yeah they do have some nice varieties of rocks for boring non-resource-yielding rock gardens.

Following up on what @LaurelSoup said, one of my villagers is giving away the DIY for Tall Garden Rock today if you (or anyone else here) is interested. Can’t hurt, certainly, to see how it looks in any empty spaces of the garden.

Edit: Town’s open!

I’m not going to click that Kotaku link but I love being encouraged to walk through the museum even though it’s maybe the only thing that inspires strong pangs of longing to, like, go places, and experience things.
