ok

Man, the gamestop preorder bonus is a second game: a sprite-based sidescrolling beat-'em-up that feels like a more technical Golden Axe. DMC-lite combo system, roll dodging, a combo-string-based super meter, magic, call-in companions, enemies that don’t take any damage at all unless you do the right thing to them, and an end of stage jingle (with victory pose!)

Seems like you sleep at save points and can dream of being bck in the open world. Really.

I did not expect spellcrafting!

I’m scared but me and my GF are going to beat this game… pretty fast. We promised each other we wouldn’t watch TV and instead play this game…

I’ve never been big on FF, we beat 13 together (seemed fine I don’t get the hate) and that’s most of my FF experience, well that and @mosesplan telling me some crazy stuff about the series.

I’m just hoping my Kingdom Hearts days pull me through. I hope I can dodge roll to victory. Cuz this game looks cool, and I wonder how many pro reviewers are knocking points because it’s not this years Witcher 3 or whatever.

the cast set up is bl heaven
there’s no way i can not be excited ab this game
unless you mention kingsglaive
i’m totally ignoring that

the vid is great tho
thnx conan
for subjecting yourself to the world of jrpgs

You should not ignore Kingsglaive, apparently, since they don’t really recap it during the game yet it’s necessary for understanding the story.

sounds like the FFXII opening cutscene

i never got along w/ XII, and consider Lost Odyssey being the true successor to X, so … technically speaking, haven’t played a FF-title since LO.

Feel a bit conflicted about how I tend to approach AAA-games recently (re: Watch_dogs 1&2, for example) and what that might do to FFXV if it really is … uh, like it is said to be?

Still, watched Kingsglaive and - dare I say it - had a great time w/ it. Will report back from the pov of someone that holds IX in high (and every few years, even higher) regard.

Finally made the connection while making camp for the second time last night between the camping system and the classic “tent” item. It’s actually kinda cool when you think about it like that. Pitching your tent and making camp out in the wilderness was always part of the series, I just never really thought much about it

This sounds like Trails of Cold Steel. The game is split into chapters and at the beginning of the final chapter there’s a brief opening narration about how all the cast went on vacation and became the best of friends, “but that’s a story for another time”. That story was actually conveyed via a drama CD included with the Limited Edition version of the JP version of the game and, it turns out, is actually important to the plot, explaining a plot point about the protagonist that is foreshadowed throughout the game and setting up the events in the game’s climax and the sequel. (The drama CD is obviously a chapter that got cut out of CS1 for budget or time reasons).

But the events of this drama CD constantly, constantly, referenced in Trails of Cold Steel 2. It almost feels like Falcom is purposely trying to confuse people who never heard it or even knew it existed. Xseed had to fully transcribe the drama CD on the game’s official website because otherwise a lot of dialogue in CS2 would make no sense. But who checks games’ official websites nowadays? I wonder how many Western players never even knew about it.

Can you hook me up with that transcription? I had thought it was a little funny how that went down and though Im stuck still at Loa Erebonius Id like to have that context going into II

i searched for bugs again

right off the bat you realize that watching Kingsglaive has at least a few minor advantages, i.e. being able to put the opening sequence into context, knowing a few faces that you’d not know otherwise … is it worth it for that alone?

probably not, but it felt nice having an “ahaaaa”-moment right from the start.

and hey, gamification in XV?
works pretty good so far:

you’re treated to a nice starry sky, if you can wait long enough, that is ~~~

that aside:
Asses …

… get a PASS.

Lensflare…

seems to be there, didn’t catch a good shot of it tho.

BS ramps up fast, nice! Game doesn't take itself too serious, it seems, that's a good thing.

and, most important point so far:

distributor box: H4CK…… unh4ckable

Watched some playthrough

This is the dumbest thing and it isn’t even weird enough or pretty to make up for it

first impressions so far:
will be interesting going back and forth between WD2 and FFXV!

Whereas I felt pretty “free” and never had a doubt that I’d miss something or trigger some cutscene in WFD2 (i.e. going off and exploring SF as soon as you passed the tutorial mission), XV felt … a bit like old times, playing a typical (j)RPG. Tread carefully, because you might miss something or trigger something by accident.

idk how XV is doing this, but they got me right from the start with this odd habit of mine. That aside, driving at night rocks, because you are driving, not that other dude. Cutting corners (Wangan style) is possible at night, thank god, but you cannot stray too far from the road. Parking feels a bit like driving in RAW DANGER: Odd.
=> didn’t care though, because I have WD2 for compensating that.

Music’s nice so far, switched to playing with english dub/sub after the first few minutes.
More 2 come when it happens~~~

I’m pasting in a code box because the embed explains the plot of CS2 and I imagine you don’t want spoilers.
