Trial 5 Start
lol.
lol.
lol this fucking rules.
Woah shit.
Monokuma joining was what I lolled at then it didn’t matter. Also I think kokoichi could have still died from maki’s poisoning ruining the game.
Forced myself to turn off the vita after that chapter end. Make myself sit with that for a day. Juuno is still around? Robo is destroying everything. Does the chapter open with a death? Who knows!!!
Maybe it will pull something like monokuma mentioned resurrction. Maybe the whole class gets resurrected! I keep thinking that is going to happen. Or just…something with Rantaro.
Harem ending 3 girls and a dude and a robot.
Woah been sitting on this for a few days and will continue to.
So Kaede has a twin sister who is behind all this is her twin sister Junko??? (No).
When they looked over the bloody monopad and the photograph of Rantaro I was really trying to figure that one out. I do not know what conclusion Shuichi pulled from that.
But again the whole game has been sort “actually no twist.” And been trying to figure out is there someone behind monokuma?
So maybe it turns out the player is behind monokuma!! Woah fuckkkkk.
Cries turns out Kokoichi was always on our side after all cries lol.
I may not really remember the last trial of 2 or the surviving members but feels like this is the least interesting surviving bunch. Magician has tried and Robo-boy is proving his Gundam. Cosplay girl has done absolutely nothing this whole game.
So maybe she is secretly behind all of this!nndsmann! She was cosplaying a fake character this whole time woah shittttttr.
For all my fussying I’ve had a great time with the game and the final reveal cannot take away from that.
ABSOLUTELY DO NOT CLICK ON THIS IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO OR ARE PLAYING THIS GAME
They are all clones they are just being regenerated over and over to host the class trial again and again. The trial can never end. Whoever wins gets the survivor bonus each time.
And now to finish Dangan Ronpa V3
Hahahahahahahhaha lolllllll
The true Danganronpa V3 starts now.
I have been doing the post-game content which is a good hand distraction before bed while listening to story podcasts.
This thread obviously deserves a longer post and will make one eventually.
Wow I can respond to your months old post because this is where I got!
To catch up, after playing through 2 (which has grown on the longer I’ve sat with it as one of My Favorite Games Ever along with the first one) my basic stance was: Ok, no idea where they’re going to go with this one but I’m extremely curious and the worse case scenario I can think of is probably at least going to be a good time.
All the mechanical changes are really good! The minigames are all the best they’ve ever been! I like that difficulty doesn’t eliminate all the twists and elements from the trial and just makes them a bit easier! The new version of Hangman’s gambit doesn’t seem like hell! I might eat all my words later!
(I’m going to assume if you’re reading these you’ve played the first two games because you should play this series in order. Beware spoilers for everything.
So first trial itself:
So straight up I knew the twist going in. Sort of. But somehow I’d got my wired cross and thought she was either the first victim, or she was killed after the first trial. So the turnaround in the middle still mostly got me.
As much as I was disappointed that the series first girl protagonist…was a red herring, I’m just…kind of going to assume these games are going to do something fucked up and after the trans shit in the first game? Well this seemed like small potatoes for me.
And I actually like dweeb detective. I like that he’s got a bit more personality than the last two protags, and the foreshadowing of him being the protag was cute. Like the girl never did the usual reaction animations both previous protags did, and when he took his hat off and revealed the requisite hair ‘fwip’, I couldn’t help grinning a bit.
The reason this one actually really got me was that both, there’s a billion questions raised here (the secret door, what’s the murder victims deal) that still haven’t been answered, and that since I thought The Ultimate Pianist wasn’t going to bite it in the tiral I didn’t even think to pay attention to her suspiscious behavior leading to a rare case where I figured it out basically along with the other characters. I do think it’s a little unfair how they did this since you have to accept she did a thing you really should have seen her do but…eh the twist was worth it, IMO.
I will say…this has extremely third installment in a horror franchise vibes. The people involved know what they’re doing, they’re trying to subert your expectations after the surprisingly good second installment, and this one feels like it exist to meet market demand. Maybe I’m liking it because I always got the impression it was ‘the weak one’ and I’ve managed my expectations? I dunno. It’s breezy, entertaining, and I really like the cast, especially the Ultimate Astronaut and Ultimate Tennis player for some reason. I’m fully expecting to be heartbroken when one or both of them is a victim/murderer.
What’s going on? Well, I know this is in theory ‘a new story’ and isn’t supposed to be a direct link to hope’s peak besides being in the wider Danganronpa continuity. At this rate my assumption is: the world DEMANDS ultimate blood because it’s extremely entertaining to watch, the greater philosophical conflict is meaningless in the scheme of things because the CROWDS WANT MORE, and it’s time to watch the kids eat each other alive basically. It would fit well with the ongoing themes of the series, and the second games intense call-out for it’s own fandom in the form Nagito and his demand for ‘hope’ which is just watching his ‘friends’ die to experience the catharsis of victory. Maybe this is a world of Nagitos the new crop of ultimates are trapped in?
Anyway, I’m enjoying myself a lot so far even if I’m worried it’s ultimately going to be a little shallower than before, but the core game has never been better so…yeah I’m on board.
Don’t click on this before finishing the game but Danganronpa v3 definitely showed signs of franchise fatigue IMO and the middle of the game felt worse than 1 and 2 as a result, but that bitterness was ultimately fueled to make the ending much stronger, when the other two games kind of tripped over themselves in standard JRPG ending nonsense in their last stretches
The Danganronpa 1 protagonist was so bland I thought Nagito was him at the start of 2. Needless to say the game got really confusing when Nagito became this huge great weirdo
This confusion’s very much intentional. He has the same voice as Makoto and his name’s an anagram of “Makoto Naegi Da” (I’m Makoto Naegi).
So! I have started playing V3. i am still at the prologue. I must say that it starts slower than the first two games. I like the graphic excesses as usual and the music is cool too. Right now I am playing it with japanese voices (not that they speak much, until now). Let’s see what happens and if it will hook me like the former episodes did some years ago.
I am playing it on the PS4, I can imagine its graphics must suffer a bit on the Vita, isn’t it, Rudie?
Chapter 4 trial spoilers
Yeah, that death fucking got me despairing. I’ll try to write more later.
Game was made for the Vita it looks great.
Nice, I knew the first two were made for the PSP, but I thought that the V3 was native for the PS4.
I don’t want to seem too critical. But this game is too slow, dialogues are overly repetitive, and the trials are also too long and not always intuitive. After getting acquainted with the characters (meaning, I finished the Prologue and Chapter 1 with the first trial), I decided to watch the summary of the plot on Youtube ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uys_bUBwjMU&ab_channel=OniBlackMage ), to at least enjoy the story, which is fantastic (and the music is great too).
I don’t regret having done so, because the game is excruciatingly slow… but if you have the motivation to do so, it’s full of wonderful moments and surprises.
Btw: to my memory, the first two games were not this slow. Do I remember correctly?
Spoilers for Chapter 5 and buildup to 6
How are Kaito and Kokichi not as Beloved by the Fans as anyone from 2? Kokichi ended up being some weird opposite world Nagito by way of 60s Joker which was almost enough to make me forget how big a piece of shit he was the entire game. He’s just a troll who wanted to out troll the series ultimate troll.
Because I’m an annoyingly big softy, Kaito is really up there in fave DR characters now both because of his stupid optimism, his charming childishness, his sweet extroversion, and his ultimate end succumbing to Anime Disease at the exact moment necessary to defy Monokuma. The callback to the first on screen death in the entire series was also cute.
Anyway, That Classroom being super important and the end was bizarrely pleasing even if I had figured out what the deal with the flashback light was already.
I’m pretty sure this is all a big TV show and none of it’s real…except maybe the killings, and the ultimate hunt was people demanding more entertainment from the killing game to find more ultimate teenagers to add as grist for the mill.
I kinda feel like while this one is probably slighter as a narrative than the double-whammy of 1+2, I’m still going to end up defending it because it’s just so plain good at manipulating my emotions, and the trials have just been so much fun to work through.
For all their flaws at the end of the day Danganronpa might be second only to Myst in my internal adventure game hierarchy.
That being said (Spoilers continue)
The cosplayer feels like the most pointless character in the entire series at this exact point in time and I’m trying to wrap my head around what her narrative function even is at this late juncture.
Spoilers for chapter 6
God I played myself with that last post.
