Cameron focused more on the romantic side, while Bigelow centered more on “the edginess, the grit” part of the film, which was something she was always interested in.

i ask because the abyss basically also has the capri sun guy
cameron had very little to do with it which is part of why it is so good. the real reason i think it’s great has to do with the ending, i feel like cameron is constantly torn between his desire to make really violent movies about like killer robots and aliens and sinking boats and boots stomping on skulls and shit and his sentimentalist tendencies that means all of his movies are actually about family or whatever
but terminator 3 is a completely goofy movie full of cringe one liners and low stakes violence that happens to have an incredibly bleak ending, really great stuff. also unlike the other later sequels (maybe aside from Salvation) T3 is the last terminator movie to understand that what the terminator films are actually about is asphalt and concrete on summer days in southern california
