I’d be happy to play matches with you, I’m not that great myself. Which game are you on?
To the Jrpg, I understand. They just suck up time. I’ve spent countless hours going through the Trails series, and some days it feels like a chore but the pay off is pretty great. Curious which ones you’re eyeing.
That sounds good! Maybe we can start a mediocre-but-getting-better-together fighting game monthly/weekly session with @MintyJuffowup and @lonelyfrontier ! Would be down to learn to fight with y’all. I’ve mostly been playing street fighters bc Sakura is so cool and I’m the most familiar with those dudes. But I’m interested in learning something new too.
I’ve been eyeing suikoden and phantasy star. Suikoden seems cool bc I’m always going to gravitate towards stuff where it’s about little guy tryung to take out the corrupt powers that be. Plus it’s got all that intertwined history stuff going on, I think? But yeah it’s 20+ hours long? That’s a loooot of time! Phantasy Star bc I’ve had so much fun with PSO and rip to Rieko. I like the way that game looks a lot and that it’s not pastoral. I only picked up popolocrois bc Hidetaka M said if he were to make a lighter game, it’d be like that one and I just wanted to see what he likes about it.
Oh yeah, I forgot to add that I wanna finish my Warp Tour and finish Enemy Zero and D2 next year
This is consistently on my “maybe next year” list. D was cool and these two seem really fascinating.
Phantasy Star and Suikoden are two of the few JRPGs I’ve beaten. The switch Phantasy Star has a lot of additions that make it faster to beat. Suikoden is just nice. You could always try the original Dragon Quest.
This is something i’ve been putting off for years but in my case it’s the first D I need to finish. Would be the perfect time of year for another D2 playthrough. Remembering that out of the three Warp “Laura actress” games D2 was way more accessible and I eventually had to dig out a FAQ to brute force my way through Enemy Zero.
i used to use it for work, mostly to figure out where my time was going (mostly twitter (thanks ADHD)) but it could be fun to track games i’m playing other than Steam’s tracking. We’ll see.
this is by the same guy who made Cube and Sauerbraten btw, which is how i found it years ago
Finish my video essay on Koukidou Gensou Gunparade March for the PS1. Been working on it on and off since August and I’m terrified I will wake up some morning and Hilltop will have translated the whole damn thing and I’ll have to throw the whole thing out.
Commit to a small number of games instead of playing a tiny sliver of everything I feel like playing in the moment, and not engaging at all with anything that I don’t already know I am quite likely to enjoy. Aggressively ditch things I am not enjoying.
I really like these goals, theyre things ive been telling myself ill do for several years now: finally finish a play through of fft, properly learn unreal, and build a decently powerful pc to move off the laptop ive been using for the past 7 years.
But you know what, this is the year I admit Im not gonna do any of that shit, Im gonna keep putting it off like I did last year. This year Im gonna be realistic
Instead I want to
Finish and release a game
Okay maybe this isnt realistic, but thats why I phrase it so vaguely. Every year I start a few new projects and then finish none of them. This year Im gonna do it even if it means releasing something I think is bad, Im just gonna put it out there
Learn a simple and limited engine where I can set aside programming and just focus on the game making. Maybe construct or something, I dont know. But unity just doesn’t work for me for game jams and small pocs I just spend too much time on the technical details even when Im reusing code. I need sometime more constrained where im not tempted to build custom render pipelines and shit
Play worse games and keep better track of them. I want to spend more time this year just picking up random roms and stuff thats not at the top of my backlog and just playing around with them for a bit instead of playing a few long games that take up all my free time. Also finish less games, games are too long to finish
