I thought dubstep had run its course. :confounded:

just imagine:

using a time machine, dropping out of space time to show your 1990ies younger self this vid, tell him to way 20+ years and disappear into the voidā„¢ again.

now, i don’t mind the dubstep tbh.

Just this Tuesday:
Yakuza 1 re-release
Sonic Mania on PC
Absolver
Destiny Beta

I haven’t owned a console in about 10 years, but lately I’ve been feeling it would be fun to play some games again. From talking to a few people in real life, it sounds like the Switch or PS4 is the way to go. (For context, I just have an old Mac laptop, so playing stuff from Steam isn’t a great option, unfortunately.)

Zelda and New Donk City look cool. Definitely want to get Thumper (but that’s on both). The Witness is PS4 only, I think. I played a bit of the new Doom last year and really enjoyed it. And I guess MGSV is probably fun too? Also keep in mind that I missed out on a lot of stuff from last gen like the Souls series, The Last Of Us, etc. Plus, my first console as a kid was an N64, so there’s a lot of stuff predating that era I haven’t played either - so a good list of downloadable classic titles potentially adds a lot of value too. Not sure how interested I am in online multiplayer.

It seems like the PS4 is the safer bet, but the portable aspect of the Switch is pretty appealing. Then again, they’ll probably release a better version of it in a couple years, so maybe it’s better to wait for more games to be released and consider it then.

Anyway, I’m just looking to have some occasional fun times with some games and will probably make a purchase before the end of the year. I’m almost completely out of the loop on what’s good these days, though, and don’t want to waste my money. Any SB perspectives on how to best accomplish this in The Year Of Our Games, 2017, would be appreciated.

Thanks!

PS4 is the more solid option right now because it has years of great games on it already. Switch is in a weird spot right now where it’s only getting first-party games or indie games, and if you care at all about playing non-indie third-party titles, you’re sitting around waiting for things to get announced for it. Developers were skeptical of the Switch leading up to launch which is why nothing big really got announced for it that early, but now that the sales numbers are there, only time will tell if anyone will bite.

PS4 is like the safest bet in the history of safe bets in terms of value for breadth of quality games, and GPUs have been overpriced relative to it for most of the time it’s been on the market except for like part of 2016

get a PS4

Is there any Year Of Game’s happening in November/December? Seems like the last big releases are Wolfenstein and Mario, on the same day in October. I’m hoping to use Nov/Dec to catch up on all the things I missed these last months (namely Rabbids and Des2ny)

Iconoclasts possibly. But otherwise wolfenstein is the last release I’m interested in this year (after original sin 2 for which I am super pumped, and dishonored for which I’m adequately pumped)

is this going to culminate in a SBGOTY thread where none of us played any of the games on the list

goty2017 is sonic mania

honestly sonic mania is in like 10th place for me at this point

right now I’m at like…

1-3: Zelda, Nier, [Wolfenstein or Original Sin 2]?
4-7: Torment, Snake Pass, Yakuza, Observer
8-10: Rock of Ages 2, Mania, Tumbleseed

haven’t played: plunkbat, arms, upcoming stuff

That’s what I was expecting, but both Mania and Zelda were way better than I’d expected or prepared for.

I might be being a teeny bit facetious, as well.

GOTY is the Puyo Puyo Tetris console port

I will never understand SB’s obsession over these new Wolfenstein games. I beat the first game and it was pretty MEH, some interesting character moments but otherwise, it was a competent, sturdy shooter. Everyone around these parts acts like it was a game changer on par with Metroid Prime.

I was ambivalent about the first wolf reboot too but there’s a lot to like in the upcoming one…

I think it’s down to how important body presence in first person games is to you. Infinity Ward and Machinegames fka Starbreeze pioneered seeing your arms and legs in front of the camera to where you no longer feel like 4’ tall camera on a stick with a single gun-arm protruding at an odd angle.

There’s also something engaging about alt-history american communists fighting klansmen and nazis.

If you like Metroid Prime you should check out nu-Doom if you haven’t already.

What game did Metroid Prime change, exactly.

I would way rather play Neufenstein over Prime. I say this as a dude who had an animated Samus avatar for like a billion years on sb 1.0.
