Nintendo calls this addition to its NSO service an “Expansion Pack.” The company said it’ll be part of a new subscription plan that existing subscribers can upgrade to when it launches next month. Details on an exact release date and pricing are unknown, but Nintendo said these bits will be disclosed at a later date.
On the one hand I see what they did there, but on the other hand I’m mad I have to pay more for this even though I’m already stupid for paying for the base service in the first place.

A Nintendo spokesperson explained the decision to release the three-button Sega Genesis controller in North America instead of the six-button controller. “For the U.S. and Canada, a replica of the original SEGA Genesis controller is the available model. This was by far the more widely used and well-known Sega Genesis controller in these regions.”
Love that we’re still giving places inferior models of things based solely on their region because like, that’s what they’re used to. Don’t even get the option of the superior model.
Not sure if I hate Nintendo or Apple more, but they’re both scumbags, so. I think 8bitdo’s are awful but people should just buy those instead of rewarding Nintendo with more money every time they do something asinine. I don’t really have a horse in this race – I don’t want either version of the controller – but it infuriates me that in 2021 companies are still limiting the most trivial shit to specific regions for no fucking good reason. None! It costs more to have these separate fucking molds and to produce these separate models than it does to just produce the six-button model, so they’re going out of their way to do this. (Also, fuck Sega, too, they 100% had to have had a say in this).
And, $50? Come on. Eat my ass. I’d sooner spend the extra $20 for a customized XBox controller than this.

You can buy the Switch-compatible, Official Sega-licenced Retro-Bit 6-button controllers right now for like half the price Nintendo will charge you for a 3-button one.
