I get the impression this isn’t their project really but enjoyed A Hat in Time enough that I wanna check out other Gears for Breakfast output. This one seems a bit too jokey to me idk. I can’t really grasp what the game is here.

for a second i thought a frog was going on a job interview and this game was going to be you trying to survive every day life as a frog in a man’s world and i was on-board.

Hell, I’d play it

Looks like a total love letter to 3D era Nintendo; super strong Mario Sunshine vibes, Wind Waker + Paper Mario style graphics, Animal Crossing social elements??

This looks…extremely calculated for a market demo to me? The frogs, the puns, the animal crossing talk sounds, the slight hint of irony trying to protect itself with ‘professional friend’?

And that was before I saw the ‘wholesome games banner’.

Not to mention I don’t think the Hat in Time people ever addressed the whole “why is Jontron in your game thing”.

I don’t like being Debbie downer but…yeah. There’s something a little cynical feeling about this to me and I actually like syrupy sweet nice times on occasion.

Isn’t the designer of Hat in Time a transphobe too or something? I remember hearing something along those lines.

I knew about the Jontron stuff but this really sucks if true.

Yeah this was my initial reaction. I just don’t really feel much heart to it. Funny how Wholesome Games is becoming a weird red flag of sorts

ugh, it probably is cynical as hell, but the cute animals and sounds and paper cutouts did trigger a smile throughout the thing (but also the nichijou reference), so good job, they got me

Did I ever publicly announce that I removed all the dog petting from my game cuz that account ticks me off

I’m such a hero

The thought with JonTron wa he paid as a backer to be in the game not as a job or as a celebrity.

Where YLaylee hired him.

Considering the default videogame aesthetic is

KILL TO LEVEL! PRESTIGE YOUR BODYCOUNT TO CLIMB THE RANKINGS ON THE GUNBOARD!

I honestly have no problem with a game branding itself as “wholesome” as its aesthetic. Unless this branding is some way for some known sex pest to hid their identity as they stay inside the industry, a hypothetical I only bring up because of how often this seems to happen, then I wish them nothing but the best.
