I get my sick jollies out of playing games on the most outdated possible hardware and since I actually have a professional use case for CUDA I haven’t been able to do that on PC in years, so personally I’m excited to run playstation games at 20 FPS on a CPU whose single threaded performance is +/- an Athlon XP in the near future
love how sony disappeared the ps4 pro as soon as the 5 launched, ensuring no one can buy either for less than $300 above msrp
it’s funny because my immense irritation with canadian customs already leads me to look at most of my hardware as ideally irreplaceable and now that opportunity cost is priced in for everyone!
if they really are launching a new switch soon it’s just going to be a handful of streamers who get one isn’t it
No joke what a strange thing to do.
One month later, each of them will receive a cease & desist letter from Nintendo.
there isn’t even an announced tegra below 14nm that would be saleable in a $300 console so idk what they’re doing with this but I assume that nvidia / Nintendo aren’t able to get 5nm capacity at a scale that makes any sense (only apple has it, and apple seems able to avoid shortages) so this is almost certainly 7, and availability of 7nm chips is a disaster right now
Since we’re past getting the die shrink allowing for slim & high-margin consoles, I’m sure the PS4 Pro was still really expensive to manufacture, so, like the original Xbox, it made the most sense to just move to the new hardware. Nobody thought it would be this bad this late when they made those decisions 18 months ago…
also, I’m glad I typed this out, because it’s reminded me that a switch that’s maybe 2x as powerful (that’d be, what, still shy of 2tflops?) isn’t particularly appealing at all, I really am good for hardware for the foreseeable future
The 60GB PS3 has by far the best library of games
An abrupt surprise from the inkle people: their new game Overboard! is announced and released at the same time, for Steam and Switch.
I remained shocked that once they hacked the ps3 they found the software ps2 emulator on all ps3s they had just turned it off for the slim and superslim.
I gave that a shot today and found it good but slight – I very much like the premise but there’s been actually quite a lot of stuff in that mold lately.
It sounds like the impact of the shortage on Apple is mostly going to be felt this fall from what they’ve said on recent earnings calls
and people said it was feature light
I wanted to look up and see if VF4 was still worth playing since I haven’t touched VF since I rented 4 in like, 2003 so I looked up on YouTube and saw that Sega of America has been doing short retrospective videos narrated by the various voice actors (Sarah and Jacky Bryant).
If 5 was on PC, I’d just play that because I love the monkey kung-fu girl’s design (she could be a Suikoden protagonist).
VF4 will never not be worth playing
