I feel this has to do with world events happening between the two games, namely the Ukraine invasion + Japan massively increasing its attack/defense budget to prepare against China
In Trails in the Sky the backstory is that 10 years ago the kingdom was unprepared for war and barely managed to fend off a massive invasion from the nearby empire, whose armies still loom at the border. And the present-day story is that evil generals are plotting a coup to increase the military budget
yes, that’s the only way it works in edit mode.
I’ve been asked to remove a cucco from its pen. This is truly the new age of Zelda.
Been approaching yiga clan members in the yiga disguise, they been talking about a new superpowered yiga that will surely destroy the hero. I was looking forward to fighting that yiga champion but now I think they’re talking about me
After realizing I couldn’t fight the lightning gleeok the “proper” way without a paraglider, I decided to fuck conservative playing and just spam five-way homing arrows before I could be electrocuted to death/it could get out of reach. It worked just a bit too well, and now I’m afraid subsequent iterations won’t actually be any fun to fight. Then again, given that there’s a fairly good chance I won’t have the proper equipment handy next time around, it may not matter. In any case, serves it right for all the times it knocked me off the mountain for an insta-kill–fall damage continues to be the bane of my existence.
ETA: Aaaaaaand what the fuck how does the game not autosave after that fight.
spamming five way homing arrows is the way the truth and the life imo
you can stock up on keese eyeballs by shooting a bomb arrow at the swarm of keese’s that come out of caves
OK!
I was rambling around doing sidequests and was aiming to do all the shines but I got bored. There are just too many goddamn shrines, and this made me miserable by the end of BotW, so fool me once. I’ve also done all the sidequests I was curious about now.
Committed to the main quest now and enjoyed the remix of Hyrule Castle although this game really loves its own combat a bit too much. The lock-on is just so weak if you’re not facing someone.
I really like how much archaeology there is in the game even though it’s very light. Did the Dragon River puzzle which help but like Outer Wilds for a second. I have maximum stamina now so heading to the final sky dungeon thing within the storm cloud was just a case of me picking a high point and gliding to it. I’m not sure they really want you to do to get to the sky islands that are farther away. Seems like they would want you to use some kind of vehicle but they all break way too quickly.
Anyway. A dungeon where repeatedly being struck by lightning is actually quite interesting gimmick and they make it difficult even if you’re immune since the lightning will strike and destroy anything around you that is destructible, some of which you need to build things.
Mainlining it now so I can escape my Zelda prison. Might eventually come back and do side stuff but it’s all very light and the rewards are generally pretty fluffy.
Mostly, there are two options:
- Find the closest tower to the sky island and after throwing yourself into the sky, glide over to it.
- If that’s not an option, just go to the spot on the surface underneath the island and either find the components or deploy the capsules needed to build a hot air balloon. You can either float up past the island and glide to it, or if you can float up directly underneath it, you can try using Ascend. There are a few islands too high for a single hot air balloon, but that usually means there’s another island nearby that you CAN reach and need to use as a staging point for the second half of your journey.
There’s also a transportation tool from the previous game (climb waterfalls) and in at least one of the temples (generage wind-gusts) that can be of benefit in certain scenarios.
Addendums regarding point 2: If one balloon isn’t enough you can use 2 to ascend faster and thus go higher before they pop. Also rockets! Two balloons with rockets (and possibly without) are enough to reach the sky labyrinths. Also the game says more heat makes balloons ascend faster, and indeed two flamethrowers under a single balloon ascend faster than one. Using a hover platform would also allow you to deal with a popping balloon I guess.
I think I did a dumb thing by climbing all the way up to the water temple without having been to see the Zoras yet. Seems like there’s a lock that probably requires some story progress to unlock? Otherwise I guess there’s some kind mechanism nearby that opens it. Kind of a bummer if not because there’s no warp point with that lock in place
Dang, that’s interesting. You do need to bring a friend to each of the regional dungeons.
Maybe there’s a shrine nearby?
I wonder if they have dialogue in place for this since there’s some questing around finding the temple.
Yeah I assumed I needed the thing from the previous game that lets you swim up waterfalls, but I just used the ol’ three springs on top of each other trick to shoot myself up above the temple (after trying and failing to use a bunch of hover blocks to get high enough to use the ascend power)
There’s a shrine about halfway up, but getting from there to the temple required using a bunch of resources so it’s a bit annoying if I have to do that again (but sounds like maybe I don’t)
i have finally met the guys you feed frog gems to. i do not like them. at all. please do not be like that
He’s the best! I’ve been dutifully collecting bubbul gems because he makes the best dialogue noises, also I had a vision the other day, I’m sure I know how his subplot ends and I wanna be there to see it. Also the stuff he gives you in exchange can be super useful.
Why are they like that lmao they’re like tinkle warios
tragic that the Wingles should outlive their Tingle
My current main quest is about as final as they come, which makes me a little sad. I mean, I’ve played the shit out of this game! I beat the temples like two weeks ago! I’ve had plenty to do since!
Just feels like the meatiest of the meat has been done. But I’ve got plenty of wells to hop into, Koroks to find, Lightroots to illuminate, King Gleeoks to get ripped apart by, etc. etc. There’s still some 40-odd shrines hiding from me out there!
It’s gonna be hard to go back with the QoL improvements in this one, but it honestly makes me want to go back to BotW. So much of that game was spent with me playing it like a coward and avoiding fights, and some regions entirely. Gonna miss the caves and such, but it’ll be fun to get in there, eat a big plate of mushrooms and swing a sword in a circle over and over.
Heh. I’m currently trying to maneuver the same place, from the opposite direction: I have all the story keys and the waterfall item, but no paraglider, which makes going up waterfalls not viable–you just get shot directly up, with no way to turn your leap into an arc, so you just end up falling back down and getting shot back repeatedly up until you take off the outfit. I’m currently trying to make hover blocks work–vertically oriented springs, like waterfalls, only shoot you directly up, making them useless for anything besides fall damage instadeath (diagonally oriented springs work better for traversal, but you need very precise aim)–and dammit, I refuse to fail.
ETA:
Tired: Using batteries to ensure your flamethrower doesn’t run out of juice while ascending in a balloon.
Wired: Continuously adding Hylian pine cones to your bonfire to create enough heat to make your balloon ascend, like some sort of fantasy train engineer.
