someone else said the same thing when i just posted this on twitter, lol. i guess some artists just have one good hit in them.
that was the last time I bought anything at a major record store too. I was like I’ll never be pressured into picking music I’m unsure of again!!!
I don’t know if anyone here is a fan of the wrens, but the lead songwriter/producer of the band just put out his first release in two decades under a new name after their unexpected breakup two years ago. some kind of important context is that they had been working on a followup to their last album the meadowlands for like two decades, and so for many people (myself at least!) this basically feels like the first real wrens release in about as much time, and honestly it lives up to and exceeds my expectations, which is so rare for this kinda thing.
holy shit
i was bummed that this is just a single - but it’s very good! the dream of Neutral Milk Hotel inspired emo indie rock is still alive in 2023 after all, what a life.
it’s a miracle that he released a single song at all lol
I love that it’s just like, remember the meadowlands? here, have something even denser and more complex and layered
hopefully more will come soon!
incidentally one of the other songs is a eulogy for timmy taylor of brainiac. didn’t expect that, but not exactly surprising
there’s definitely a full album of material. an old version leaked a couple of months back. it’s funny listening to that version and so clearly being able to pick out who wrote which tracks without even really being much of a wrens fan.
I thought the new HEALTH album that came out today was pretty good. I liked it more than their last, so that makes it the best since DEATH MAGIC.
they released some command and conquer fancam music video and it was disappointing I should check out the album tho
If you meant this one with the Godflesh guitar cameo, that’s a really funny way to describe it lol It really does sound like the C&Q Hellmarch theme
yeah i was describing the actual music video ahhaa. i think their whole phase right now is classic RTS cover band
