jesus, Solar Ray (the album) is 20 years old by now… as if i didn’t feel old already
wow, yeah, i think it came out in 2001. i only found it because i fell down a hole listening to the berserk stuff but i love the album a lot.
yeah, i remember Hirasawa’s albums coming out after 2002 which i’ve been waiting for, and now realizing they’ll soon been out for two decades is wild. Considering he was at it before I was born, and he’s still around and kicking is wild.
There was this L.A. public access station we used to get when I moved to Riverside County back in 1999, and there was a program that aired where random local bands would perform. This is the only song from that show I remember, though. It’s super Year 2000 and not very good, but it reminds me of that year, so. Every so often I look it up to hear it, and start to feel the pangs of a panic attack when I can’t find it. I should just download it. Anyway, I was surprised to find this on Archive.
Matt Berry effortlessly mixes humor into these otherwise perfectly serious songs, and it’s great.
Will of steel
Will of God
Will of man
Will of dog
maybe it’s not so effective without the context of the whole album but it is exactly and perfectly the thing i want in my life.
does anyone recognise what this is sampling? it’s killing me
e: yuji ohno - love does not return, trying to place where else ive heard it sampled
For when you need your bassy summer car jam but also need to stick to the goth canon.
tbh i find all electronic music that uses binaural panning/stereo imaging somewhat unnerving, not just Caretaker, although he certainly pushes it to an extreme. maybe it’s a headphone-specific thing though since not everyone seems to experience it.
even with something like this which is supposed to be relaxing and wholesome, the way the sound frequently feels like it’s being whispered in my ear from behind, or a tiny insect clicking somewhere, or individual raindrops on a tin roof, sets me on edge through the whole thing
Did someone ask for a kpop kitsch ballads update?
… if that’s too much kitsch, fear not, the world of ruins is in balance:
and french79 is also back w/ a collab:
i have embarrassingly been listening to the new lorde song ‘solar power’ a lot, but in my defense it is fun to imagine an alternate reality in which the current 90’s alt rock revival is centered entirely on primal scream, as it should have been, instead of like lite grunge or whatever
there’s literally no reason to link it here so instead just listen to actual primal scream
