fwiw, came back home w/ a huge haul of new PS5 software:

Sonic & Sonic & Sonic & Shadow Generations
Wukong - hey, it finally got a physical disk release, weyhey
that unknown #9 Bandamco game
OnePiece Odyssey for 20 bucks (Motoi Sakuraba!)

now with the exisiting velocity of cleaning my backlog, this should be enough to tide me over into 2040 or 2042, i guess :tarothink:

let me know if you get anything interesting out of wukong, I found it really confusingly slight. it looks good but it has pretty spongy combat, uninteresting buildcraft, and boringly naturalistic level design to the point where I feel like its popularity is fairly astroturfed and then amplified by people who are afraid to accuse them of astroturfing.

I just want to know if the PS5 port of Wukong is as borked as people say or if it is just people overly concerned with framerate being loud again.

The fact that Granblue Fantasy and Trails through Daybreak aren’t on here feels damning.

@wren made HD2 worth while

fwiw, with moi … let’s call it eclectic taste … you probably will not be any wiser when i report back, I’ve made it 40+ years in, and still cannot tell consistently why something clicks with me (or why it doesn’t).

Also take it w/ a grain of salt whenever i talk about anything that touches KoeiTecmo related IP in some aspect (Songoku is the disney’fied character that turns up in their games regularly) because i have def spent more time with Samurai Warriors 4&5, Warriors Orochi 3&4 and Dynasty Warriors 8/Zelda Warriors/some spinoff/Persona Warriors in the last decade than, say, with the mainline FFs (FF15,16,FF7R#1+2). So if the aren’t dropping the ball HARD, i will probably enjoy my time w/ it, i guess?

in somewhat related terms:
Since i also checked yesterday for a list i’m sharing w/ friends, was amused to realize there was another trend that seems to be true for me:

  • my GotY '22 was Sonic Frontiers (which i didn’t even finish there&then, but Boss #3 was enough to claim the crown)
  • Armo(u)red Core 6 was '23 pick (which i haven’t finished even once until now), which won on pure merit of the Dub (SO SHAPE UP OR SHIP OUT)
  • and GotY '24 … not sure yet which it will be, but if it is Inscryption, that’d be the first i have finished in the same year for a while now :tarothink:

Inti Creates’ Umbraclaw wins the coveted Game Whose Release I Feel Guiltiest About Missing Award:

apparently this game came out like 7 months ago

given the amount of umbreons i’m friends with, i’m pretty much contractually obligated to give this game a playthrough (also it’s directed by the same director as the BMZ trilogy)

Victory Heat Rally coming in hot as one of my favourites from 2024.

Unforunate there are two ā€œretro aestheticā€ drift-based racing games with Rally in the title and they came out within a month of each other so have to compete.

Oh damn, what was the other one?

I’m here to tell you that Granblue Fantasy Relink is available for 50% off on Steam and PS4/5

i’m no expert, but that is 87% of the same game, and Sony… decided … to split it across three entries? :tarothink:

what’s going on here…

Oh, well, that’s easy to explain

One of those is the PS5 demo and the other is the PS4 demo

It’s a fun game, but eventually I had to call it. I can only beat the same boss so many times before my eyes cross

listen, those two endgame weapons for every character aren’t going to ascend themselves

i can’t go that far. I lack the discipline.
