Probably “I am Sinistar” or “EA Sports… it’s in the game!”
was gonna say this
until I saw this
something from crash bandicoot 3, i think
that or the voice acting in megaman X6, oh god
“find the miracle ball” or whatever the voice says at the start of Alex Kidd: the Lost Stars
Unless we are specifically talking intelligible words, in which case probably “SEGA”
“JIM RIVERS”
- excitebike 64, 2000
seeeeegaaaaa
“Kain is deified…”
technical jerk answer is probably the intro to dragon’s lair or time traveler
spirit of the question answer is maybe a sesame street game or SKATE OR DIE 2
i remember being 100% blown away by the clayfighter theme like “this is a real song holy shit!”
There was a dude in elementary school who would frequently talk about how mind blowing the speech was in the NES Sesame Street games. There was always this tinge of embarrassment from him that came along with his praise, but I don’t remember anyone else ever making it an issue. Still I never got the courage up to rent one and see what all the fuss was about.
The first I remember is in the Williams Arcade’s Greatest Hits game on the SNES. I distinctly remember hearing Sinistar saying “RUN HOWARD”
took me years to figure out he was saying COWARD
The reality is that it was probably Street Fighter 2 but that hardly stands out in my mind
This game was a nightmare BTW
ooh yeah the NES sesame street games are probably pretty competitive with my original answer

The voice samples in Dark Castle, albeit they’re more grunts than words for the most part:
I played the DOS version but it had them too on the PC speaker, somehow.
“Strike!” followed by “You’re out!” in Bases Loaded II: The Second Season.
Blew my goddamn mind.
wow, great thread. it’s bugging me that i really have no idea what the first game i heard with speech.
probably an arcade game?
“Now where am I going to find the stone in all this junk?”
I feel like there should be something earlier than Fate of Atlantis, but I never had a console and remember nothing about early arcades.
Sega.
“I am Sheltem, guardian of Terra”
Notably, I didn’t have a sound card at the time but Might & Magic 3 could do speech on the PC speaker, which was pretty impressive.
Technically I should probably have heard Impossible Mission on the C64 first but the C64 monitor we had was monochrome with no sound. We only occasionally had the permission to plug the C64 into the TV.
