what are the best van damme movies

apart from JCVD of course

also apparently his new show is good? anyone watch it?

Bloodsport

cyborg is pretty rad from what i remember watching it on vhs 20 years ago

Breakin’

Bloodsport and Kickboxer are both essential grounding for his classic school of climactic fighting: get beat up for an eternity, then get his second wind and do nothing but flying roundhouse kick his suddenly paralyzed opponent to death.

HARD TARGET is HARD TARGET I mean gosh

Universal Soldier for the scene where he doesn’t know what his own dong is.

Timecop was splits apotheosis.

M A X I M U M R I S K is full of of genuinely interesting/varied fights that really push the JCVD comfort zone. There are some OK jokes in it. The better twins movie.

Double Team & Knock Off are both powerful examples of why you should not do cocaine and also why you should do cocaine. If you only watch one make it Double Team.

UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: REGENERATION

&

UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING

are both really good and I love them

The pilot for his Amazon show is kind of cute and not terrible but also not great?

The jokes and references are really broad and obvious.

Time Cop. I think that is his only good movie. He’s no Steven Segal.

:silicoid:

Shrug has the good wisdom. Especially the UniSols.

Until Death is really enjoyable too

I ain’t no JCVD expert, but street fighter man cmon

DISGUSTING

In Sudden Death he fights someone in a big plushie penguin mascot suit in a kitchen.

INFERNO/DESERT HEAT is yet another Yojimbo ripoff in which we are forced to believe that Van Damme has sex with other human beings. More than one in fact!

Seconding Hard Target

I like The Quest but perhaps that makes me a philistine.
I haven’t seen Bloodsport

I saw the movie when it came out, and couldn’t believe this fight scene was real.

I recently watched Double Impact for the first time and despite it being made out of all the right elements, it was sadly low energy. That bit where noted JCVD enemy Bolo Yeung tosses a barrel at him and he kicks it out of the air was super hype though.

But yeah, you can’t go wrong with the two new Unisols and HARD TARGET. Time Cop is also acceptable. Or just watch the Enya split video over and over again.

My friend made the Jean Claude Van Damme search results page on Netflix his homepage.

I watched the pilot for his new show, I enjoyed it. As Shrug said, it’s not great, but I’d probably watch a full season (if it was 6-12 episodes)
