what am i supposed to think about the new Marvel Vs. Capcom

I’m finally playing through IJ2 right now and the most immediate thing I can see is how it’s immediately defining itself from the previous games “Dull looking T-Rated MK with Super Heroes” way better. All the hitsparks, particle effects etc have been amped up, the characters have way more colour to them, and the stages have way better colour and lighting (HDR is really nice looking on the Slaughter Swamp stage). Fighting’s a bit more smoother, but still in that NRS pre-canned style. And the Graphics are scarily good looking because it’s a way smoother blend of comic book and realism. That Hellboy character model is legitimately incredible with how they managed to capture Mignolia’s signature style and blend it into their game.

MvC: I should have been a refined version of MvC3 in style and scope, really. The 2v2 tag system was a good idea to freshen and balance the game but switching its style to an awful compromise just leads to mixed results, especially when you see they can do great looking characters like Captain Marvel, Monster Hunter and Venom. But then you see Spencer, Hawkeye and Winter Soldier and you wonder what went wrong with their pipeline never mind the allegedly awful budget.

for the uninitiated in case they dunno what robutts talking about (and since I didn’t either):

venom kind of does look great btw

can’t find a better angle of hawkeye but you should be able to tell you aren’t exactly looking at much from this one

where as something like spencer just looks…off. there’s just something not right about him

I desperately need some exemplary links demonstrating “weird and experimental” music in MvC3, because everything I heard was the most rote modern Capcom junk imaginable, like literally only happy hardcore + electro + e-guitar and/or orchestra beats, basically the sort of mind-numbing stuff you’d expect to hear on OCRemixes

I dunno about experemental but I liked about half of the UMVC3 tracks. My favorites being:
Ghost Rider
Nova
Deadpool (fun vocals)
X-23 (another vocal that was kinda cool)
Dante’s (MVCI’s rendition of this track was a complete trainwreck)
Spiderman( this one does feel kinda experimental. Some kinda weird ska/jazz fusion going on.)

The marvel sided ended up more interesting. The capcom side was mostly remixes of varying degrees of jam-itude.
