I think one of the commandments for the new forum way less megathreads. So I’m going to do what I never dared do in old GBF and make a really spur of the moment thread for a single topic.
I watched all available Gravity Falls this past month. It was better then expected despite the glowing recommendations. I was getting a bit tired of it by the time I finished the first season though. I think it was a combination of a majority of episodes focusing almost entirely on Dipper and Mabel yet never developing them too much and the main mystery going almost nowhere.
Season 2 seemed to really step it up with more unique character interactions and development, actually get a main plot going, and have a lot more real funny jokes. Could be talking out of ass a bit though so it all blends together a bit for me even though I took a short break between seasons. Part of it is probably that a lot of season 2 episodes build on ones in season 1 so it all feels like you get more of a pay off for sticking with it. I suspect this must have been a fun show to speculate about in the various hiatus breaks. Hope some kids have some fun with all the code stuff and not have the Internet spoil it for them. I know I would have had it been around.
Xpcveaoqfoxso lives up to its expectations so far in being suitably out there and really looking forward the hour long finale. Next month I hear?
Look, the first two episodes of season 2 were some of my favorite television of the year. “Into the Bunker” especially was just everything I love about this show rolled into one tight adventure.
I think they’ve just gotten more elaborate with the story, and somehow, taken pretty big chances with the network and gotten away with it. Bill Cipher is a villain I adore watching make reality his plaything, and the fact that he seems so free to be as twisted as he pleases, in network television terms, makes him genuinely unsettling when he shows up. It’s good to have your audience fear and love your bad guys.
I’d say bringing Wendy full-sale into the fold as a main character was a great idea, even if she’s lost almost all of her flaws at the start of S2 and gone on to be an exclusively “cool older sister” type. She definitely fits really well as the one offensive member of their group when it comes to at fight.
So, yeah, I’d say Hirsch just decided to keep going forward, and somehow, the network let him. What we got was just a better version of the first season.
Yep, was really surprised it took so long to happen honestly. Also liked them making Grenda and Candy slightly less one-note characters and was really happy to see that they’d be around for the finale. Could be said for a lot of the minor characters actually.
I know a lot of people are satisfied with this getting a proper ending before it gets stale but I really think they had enough material to work with for at least half another season. Ah well, gotta take what one can get. Have vague hopes for at least some kind of epilogue episode despite having no idea how this will all end. Wiping Gravity Falls from the fabric of reality doesn’t seem like to much of a stretch at this point.
That’s a pretty cool brag. You should watch another episode.
This show was terrific from the very start and season 2 was only a continuation of that excellent quality imo. Though decisively killing the “Dipper crushes on Wendy” subplot was an unquestionably good move.
He started co-writing some episodes at the end of season 1 and continued doing so through season 2. I’ve wondered if his contributions was what partly what made S2 “great” compared to S1 “good” for me.
Agreed. They’ve played around with a few other pairings for Dipper but I wonder if they’ll actually commit to anything in the finale. I think I’d actually prefer if they left it ambiguous though.
