The new game from Tokihiro Naito, creator of Hydlide and Undead Line and current dude working at M2, last I heard. Was originally released for PC-88 in 2024, with and MSX version following. Both are available as DLC skins for the Steam version, which is pretty cool. Basically it seems like a relatively simple shooter, but every stage has little gimmicks and secrets for boosting your score and getting a lot of new items and challenges. It’s pretty cool, if you like hidden bullshit!
I am starting this thread to start keeping track of gimmicks in each stage for getting bonuses. I will hide them in each level’s details, but there are a lot so far. Most of these seem to be repeatable, meaning that when you die on a stage, you can do it again to get the bonus again as it resets the stage on death.
Stage 1
Don’t do anything when you start the game until a red slime shows up, then hit it with the first shot to make a trophy worth 1 extra life show up.
Touch the backs of all three trees to get 3000 points.
Stage 2
Touch the backs of all the trees before killing anything to get 5000 points.
Get 5 red slimes on the stage all at once to earn a treasure bag worth 5000 points
Stage 3
Kill some amount (8) kobolds without missing to earn a 5000 point treasure bag.
Let two of the kobolds stay on the stage long enough to get enraged (their forehead turns red and they start aiming their shots) to get the Kobold boots to appear, which give you a speed boost.
Stage 4
Stage 5
Step on the two buttons to make the fairy appear.
Touch the fairy to get armor (lets you take ana extra hit on your first life on a stage).
Stand on the spot where the Fairy appears to make two treasure bags appear.
Do…SOMETHING (I don’t know what) to make the Vampire appear. He’s fast and powerful and I’ve never killed him nor understood how i get him to show up.
Stage 6
Boss fight so no secrets found yet, but that doesn’t mean there arent any.
Stage 7
Touch the tombstone in the upper left to make the Side Shot appear in the bottom right.
Stage 8
It seems like only one of these at a time works, and it is different each time in my few times through the stage.
Stage 9
It does spawn a treasure chest. I’ve never been able to actually get it to confirm what is inside.
Stage 10
Stage 11
There is something here to do with walking up the ladders in the right order, as you get a negative feedback sound when you do it in the wrong order, but I haven’t been able to figure that out. Also the sides loop, Pac Man style, which might have something to do with it. Gonna experiment.
Stage 12
Another boss fight, so not sure what the secret could be here.
I will add more as I play, and if anyone else is playing and has suggestions, I will add them into the list above.
Okay so I might have gone hard on this and cleared it on Average and on Practice at 2x speed. I kind of really like it. I’m gonna go hard here so I’ll spoil all of them individually. Click at your peril.
One correction to what you’ve got up there: on Stage 4, the snake has nothing to do with the Double shot appearing. You need to wait for two Kobolds to overlap so you can take them out with one shot simultaneously, and that should trigger it. Now, that being said, the snake does gives you a point bonus, but only if you manage to take out all of the kobolds in Stage 4 while it’s alive and attacking! As long as the snake is the last thing you kill, it should count.
Some other big ones:
In Stage 5, touch where the Fairy spawns after hitting the two switches to spawn two sacks of gold in the maze.
In Stage 7, touch the tombstone in the top-left of the graveyard to spawn a Side power-up. Also, you can touch the top-right tombstone to spawn a bag of gold.
In Stage 8, there are several tombstones you can touch. You can tell because they’ll either light up or play an error sound. They also look relatively undamaged and alike, but you need to look closely.I’ve found two combinations that spawn chests in the middle of the playfield, but given the amount of tombstones I would wager there’s at least one more. One combo is to touch the bottom-right stone first, then another up and to the right of it. The second is to touch a stone on the far-left, then the two from the first combo, and finally one directly at the top of the playfield in the top row.
Stage 9’s “secret” is bullshit and for sickos. The switch raises a maze and starts spawning in enemies from behind and the sides like crazy. Best to ignore it unless you’re going for a max score.
Stage 10’s is nicer. Touch the orb up top for a Fairy, then touch the chest on the right for a Multi power-up. Do NOT touch the other chest unless you want some walls to raise and for enemies to start spawning like crazy. Wait until you’ve only got one enemy left to grab it.
On Stage 13, kill two scorpions simultaneously with the Side weapon to spawn a pair of Shoes. The achievements also mention going through the sinkholes in a certain order, but I haven’t figured it out yet.
Not much of a secret, but a tip for Stage 17 since it tripped up a friend and I: right before the final approach, there’s an area where gargoyles with come to life and swoop you. The entrance to the cathedral is booby-trapped with spikes that trigger on proximity. Tap to move carefully and get them to raise, then zip over when they start to retract. They don’t do damage on the way down, and you won’t make it if you wait for them to fully retract.
There is one more secret to find on Stage 1, but it’s very sneaky and I kind of want to see if you get it. I will say you’re halfway there with it. ;3
Hell yeah, I was super busy all weekend and didn’t get to add more to this list, but I will fix the Stage 4 tips as you spoiled above, and then check your others out when I write up those stages. I have gotten to 17 on one credit before so, I will probably get back there soon.
I don’t know exactly what makes the vampire show up, but it’s not too difficult to beat. You just keep circling around the structure in the lower right and get hits in when you can.
I reached the sanctuary but it was too much for me. Maybe I’ll try it again on “practice” mode, though the rest of the game isn’t difficult enough for me to want to play an easier version all the way through.
i tried playing the demo for this but after killing blobs for a couple minutes it just… stops? no more blobs spawn and nothing happens. i guess it’s maybe a wine/proton bug but it’s very strange. happens on all three difficulties.
