Y’all used to do this for Souls games, yeah? It seems appropriate considering basic things like location names or descriptions are important to the spirit of the game.
I’ve seen most of the map except for Akkala (northeastern section), where I only bee-lined to Robbie’s workshop and then got my ass kicked trying to light his furnace. I still haven’t found the

the “leveling” system that determines what color of enemy spawns
the memory/hearts required to pull the Master Sword out
For 2, I’ve heard that memories can substitute for hearts 1:1, but I failed to pull the sword out with nine hearts and four memories. It’s possible there are other factors that get you to the threshold, or that the memories are weighed unevenly.
Investing in picking up armor sets for the various resists made things much easier, but combat is still keeping me on my toes. I’m getting better at disciplined waiting for parries, but it’s more fun to be aggressive with the heavy weapon charge attack.
I haven’t made as much progress as Doolittle, but just popping in to say chasing Naydra down Mount Lanayru was definitely one of the coolest things I’ve done in a game in recent memory!
I’m going about this game very slowly, trying to get acclimated to each region somewhat before moving on.
That said, I did make an expedition into Hyrule Castle, even though I’ve only got 5 hearts and not-great equipment. I got much farther than I thought I would via very careful placement and some tricks to avoid insta-death lasers. I got to the end boss and actually beat the first two phases with little trouble, though it was time consuming. I got halfway through the third before I got killed in one hit by an attack. It felt very much like trying to cheese through a Dark Souls boss long before you should be able to. It was very exciting.
Last thing I did was go through the Lost Woods. That actually scared the crap out of me for some reason! Getting through to the Korok forest was a huge relief - finding the Master Sword and Deku Tree there was amazing. I actually gasped out loud.
Right now, I feel like I am constantly underprepared for whatever expedition I am making, which is a really neat counterpoint to the usual Zelda thing of gating you out of stuff you shouldn’t be doing.
EDIT: Oh, and Wizrobes are fuckers
Also! Any advice on what I should and should not be selling? I’ve been holding on to at least three of every stone (Amber, Diamonds, etc.), and I haven’t sold any of the Ancient screws etc. I’m also not selling monster parts, since I know you need those to upgrade armor. So uh…what CAN I sell safely? I guess food but that’s not very profitable. I haven’t found a reliable way of making money. I guess I could start farming moblins or something.
I make most of my money from Lizalfos loot (and other high level enemies). Your instinct is right about ancient parts - I think they’re largely finite.
Also, side quests in villages tend to pay 50-100 rupees each.
I tried to pull it out and almost died. That was great.
I wonder if you could use temporary hearts to do this though! I have some food that gives me, like, 6 extra hearts. I’m betting it doesn’t work but it would be interesting to try.
Wanted to dig out this thread so i could blather spoiler-free about how much i love those Tachikoma-like roboguardians and how wild it is that they can snipe you from like 200 feet away
(i would consider this a spoiler just for how much of an amazing surprise it is when you first encounter a live one, and then an even more amazing surprise when you encounter a mobile one. Everything about this game is more rewarding the less you expect it)
In general the enemy encounters in this are genuinely dangerous and exciting. Even fighting a couple of bokoblins feels risky early on. But those robots, man!! Everyone should try to get as close as possible to Hyrule Castle as soon as they can. i finished up my play session yesterday by getting to the nearest Shiekah tower and having to quickly scale it while the guardians shot at me from below, and it was The Coolest Shit.
My other favorite enemy encounter was spotting some lizalfos for the first time while creeping through a swamp. i scoped one out on my tablet binocular app thing, then turned and spotted another right as it spotted me, and then BAM it was right up in my grille it was just like the scene from the first Star Wars where Luke spies the tusken raiders and then one of them pops up right in front of him. This game owns
I’m nearing the endgame. I have about 70 shrines located, all four divine beasts complete, and I just located the last Sheikah tower to complete the map 100%. As much as I’ve enjoyed exploring different areas, I finally decided to look up the list of stables to verify my progress; turns out I hadn’t explored the roads east of Hyrule Castle nearly as well as I thought I had, and I’d completely overlooked the stable there. I’ve found three fairy fountains and I know where the horse fountain is, but I haven’t been there yet. I haven’t bought the outfit in the secret shop in the Gerudo town, and I’m still missing the ancient helm, climbing pants, and the attack-up shirt, plus all the monster masks other than the lynel mask. The only memory I’m missing is in Hyrule Castle, and after breaking all my other shields against the guardian turrets in there, I decided I didn’t really want to risk my new Hylian shield immediately and called off the search for now. The timing on shield parries on some of these is weird, isn’t it? I can parry the laser from mobile guardians 100% of the time, but the turrets and the fliers hit me more often than not. Plus, I am never as bad at aiming as I am when it comes to shooting ancient arrows, so all in all it’s a close race between guardians and lynels for “enemies I’m most likely to run from.”
