They changed us over to a new soft phone system at work, and the little four-note chime they play when a call disconnects sounds identical to an Earthbound battle sound effect. I can’t remember which one, but I’m pretty sure it’s a bad one—you got a status ailment, or your PSI effect had no effect, or something like that.
behold, it’s called martha.
a video game thing i think about a lot is how mario 64 expanded mario’s move set to allow him to interact with the 3d world in new and exciting ways, and one of the main elements of this paradigm shift was giving him the ability to punch shit
now that I’ve read this, I’m going to think about it all the time

if you can handle the annoying youtuber, here is some video coverage of it:
oh my god the way it goes back to normal after everything too this would fuck with me this is so much better than eternal darkness
a videogame thing i think about a lot is FUCK ETERNAL DARKNESS
I was playing Eternal Darkness a little bit a couple weeks ago after years of hearing how cool it was. But, nah, I don’t see it!
Best thing about Eternal Darkness was how you figure out its magic system.
eternal darkness was great when i played it because i hadn’t heard of HP Lovecraft before
I would give up almost anything to be able to play Outer Wilds for the first time again
if you were able to play eternal darkness when it came out before you knew anything i could see it being kinda novel once
Outer Wilds is still really fun when you watch someone else experience it for the first time. It’s definitely kind of vicarious but I think there’s a lot of fun in seeing it puzzled out from a different perspective.
yeah like, it was cool learning all of this mythology, and i love the fact that you get a bad ending when you beat the game three times, and then an evil dead god merges all of the realities so that all of its opponents are now dead, but
in practice
not a great game.
woah that sounds pretty cool though. there are some fictional elements I like about it, but something about the game just feels dorky even down to the way you fight stuff. idk
Eternal Darkness is amazing, but I think a lot of that has to do with the context in which you first played it. For me it was in my apartment in the ghetto. Someone locked their keys in their apartment and started banging on my front door for like two hours while I played, and the whole time I wrote it off as the game just messing with me and/or just random sounds you hear all day when you live in the hood. I did finally help the person when I realized it wasn’t the game.
A friend of mine was alone in the middle of nowhere in Kosovo in an army shack full of weapons when he played through it.
the art of manliness: feels much like a diaper

ETERNAL DARKNESS
all I think is: green glowing shotgun
and Im like, “yeah that was probably a fun game.”
