I remember downloading Asia Carrerra’s UT skins.

Did I once post 500 words about her G4 appearance and her website and her MENSA membership or did I just inflict that on everyone in anime club?

Ohhh boy.

Test your knowledge or instincts:

As somebody with at least some familiarity with both Pokemon and Big Data I find I am worse at this than I expected (maybe 80% accuracy so far)

100% correct based solely on my pokemon knowledge…but got close to being wrong a couple of times on the big data ones

i think (and post) a lot about which movies had the most completely distinct video game adaptations, and while i still think the winner is jurassic park, another spielberg movie has emerged as an unexpected challenger: hook

the nes and snes games are totally different, one is by ocean and the other is by sony, and the genesis version is also by sony and as far as i can tell the same as the snes one. (weirdly the sony hook game has a spiritual successor on snes called skyblazer). the sony one was also released on sega cd.

the gameboy one is closer to the nes one and also by ocean, while the game gear game is closer to the snes/genesis one, but both are still distinctive.

the strangest thing though is that there was also an arcade belt scroller, and a PC game that looks more like a point and click adventure game.

a lot of people wanted to make money off this movie about robin williams having a midlife crisis.

Currently reading Roadside Picnic (novel that created the Stalker universe) and it’s remarkable how similar the vibe is to the late-game of a good traditional roguelike like Brogue. The keyed-up caution and attentiveness to detail, the mastery of the dangers which means above all in extreme patience and a deliberate lack of self-confidence. The principle of simply freezing and doing nothing until one’s plan and emotions gets back into balance with a new situation.

I googled “stalker roguelike” after having this thought and sure enough there are like 10 of them. I wonder which one is the best one

i enjoy nearly every one of those Hook games. the SNES one has a pretty nice soundtrack. the Sega CD one just pipes in fucking John Williams lol

edit: i just remembered that they replaced Robin Williams with a voice actor in Hook for Sega CD and it’s fascinating. Sega CD is a god damn trip

kinda similar to Addams Family in terms of there being 8bit/16bit/handheld/computer releases that are not all the same game and definitely have nothing to do with the movie

some of that music slaps though

thinking about how my internal sense of hobbyist game filesize has basically not evolved since 2006, as i click on an interesting looking gamejolt thing and instinctively recoil when it turns out to be a 500mb download
