IIRC this was Leonard Nimoy in his final leading acting role. This scene also has Optimus say “I want your face!” and then rips off a robot’s face with his axe. Immediately before that scene the Autobots are all being kept as prisoners of war, who are saved by a heroic US Special Forces team.
On a recent rewatch I found Bayformers 1 more watchable than I remember. Bayformers 2 was on the path to being a real movie with character motivations and a plot arc, but then a robot opened a portal, and the remaining 80 minutes of movie are a non-stop chase sequence. Bayformers 5, the one that takes an entire scene in its 3 1/2 hour run time to invent a Romeo and Juliet law in a state that doesn’t have a Romeo and Juliet law to justify Marky Mark trying to kill his daughter’s boyfriend, but also have his daughter and her boyfriend hook up at the end of the movie, is where I checked out.
I think they understood that making it so Merlin was real and was a wizard because he was buddies with a transformer who murdered England’s enemies for him was a good stopping point and rebooted with Bumblebee, which was good
and then they made a Beast Wars movie which was also good until when you get to the end and find out that it was a setup for a GI Joe vs Transformers movie, which got canceled anyway even the BW movie did fine
also I guess Transformers One happened.
anyway the most interesting thing about any Transformers movie is that we only have good looking masters of the 80s movie because one of the University of North Carolina campuses had a print
I found Transformers 1 so ugly and unappealling that i had/continue to have less than 0 interest in ever seeing more. But to its credit I do think there is a specific aesthetic/filmic vision there in terms of this modernist-futurist aesthetic of twisting metal and widgets and motion that sort of never fully resolves-- john chamberlain by way of blockbuster movie. i just hate it lol, and assume its like a GI Joe thing where the IP itself is fundamnetlaly cynical/jingoistic but buoyed by ppls nostalgia.
The only part of the Transformers story that I care about is Starscream and Jetfire being star-crossed lovers, which I’m not sure is even in any of the canon, and I don’t care.
Don’t forget my favorite part, a dementia addled Jon Voight lumbering around a bunker trying to shoot a naughty monkey robot with a shotgun as old as he is
it should have been revealed The Boss infiltrated the fuhrerbunker and was the one to cap Hitler. that should have been the final level of The Boss prequel game which KojiPro floated making at one time.
saying that TF porn is mostly yaoi seems self evident seeing as Gobots had more female characters until maybe Beast Wars or Animated or Hasbro’s favorite child Windblade
I’m looking at it now and I’m fucking shocked they haven’t shoved Windblade in a live-action movie yet
To specify about the TF One yaoi art: this is just my observation from anime convention artist alleys. TF One in particular had a lot of artists drawing Optimus x Megatron (who I assume are younger in the movie?), like way more than I’ve ever seen. There’s not that many robotfuckers at the anime cons I’ve been to unfortunately
And yet this predates the era where 75% of your marketing is streamers who watch this video, and then look at their other computer and ask “Chat where do I go?”
I’ve never seen him show up again, but a few months back when they were doing a twitch drop for Hitman one of the actors from The Sopranos did a stream for the game. He was frozen solid as he watched the opening cutscene of The Hitman wingsuit glide onto the Burj Khalifa. As soon as he was able to start playing he asked “Guys where am I supposed to go? Am I supposed to jump off the building? I have a parachute.” He got frustrated enough that he ended the stream.
got ending d of drakengard the other day but i keep thinking about this scene from right before the first ending
even beyond manah’s very funny and relatable “Kill me” tantrum that takes up most of it i keep thinking about how angelus (the dragon) calls getting pet by caim being “warmed”.
Gotta say one of my fave Starcream bits in what I’ve read of semi-recent transformers comics is at one point in More than meets the eye a post-war Megatron is put on trial for, well, the whole war and given an out by Starscream who defends him by saying exactly what he always says, that Megatron was an incompetent leader who had no idea how to lead the decepticons and thus the war happened through no intent of his own.
Tale of Tales was really before their time. They did the walking sim thing too early, and the Path and Sunset would really kill today with the streamer crowd. I was wrong about them years ago when I was joining in with the tig forums in mocking everything they tried. They were solid and the world is better for having their games in it.
