videogame things you think about a lot lot lot lot

TIL:

In the original Nobunaga’s Ambition: Zenkokuban, there’s an age system wihtin. Not like others games by KOEI, the warlord only lives once. Which means when the warlord controlled by player died and game over, you cannot control the latter successor keep playing. If the warlord controlled by NPC then their state will be empty and occupied by others.

And when the game starts, Mori Motonari is 63 years old.

3DO was a cd based system without copy protection so if you were a rich kid with a 3DO and a cd burner, you got free games.

It was a huge bump up in volume of games.
That was the take at the time.

Still agree with you that Neo Geo was the better system, but the 3DO wasn’t without its advantage.

If I remember it was a truly pitiful amount of ram and 1x disc drive just meant you were very limited with what you could do.

The 3DO’s main contribution to civilisation was adding the most Muppetlike voiceacting possible to Star Control II.

as far as i can tell, 3do has the same amount of ram as the playstation (but playstation has a 2x cd drive iirc)

the opening of mario all stars where there’s crowd chatter and the characters are all just silhouetted and then the REVEAL that all the chatter was your Mario friends!!

This opening unsettled me as a small child and I don’t really know why. I guess I didn’t have any context for what a cocktail party was, so I was just like “why are they all in the dark chanting…”

Maybe it was the ram read speed? It was something basic (like I know anything) where they couldn’t really do anything on it.

no it’s really eerie! it’s like in phoenix wright when the courtroom audience starts murmuring cuz something unprecedented happened! they’re all talking about YOU! same anxiety as being sung happy birthday to you at a resturaunt

Isn’t birdo a boy?

Well I guess not

Depends on how transphobic the person writing or translating the instruction manuals felt at the time of publication.
