The funny thing is that its title indicates it was not supposed to be the overworld music at all, but it is, and it is so good.

everyone here keeps posting things on here lately that i’m going to probably put in a future one of my game music mixes, this included.

looked up other stuff by these composers and found this, which is perfect Abyss vgm

tfw can no longer hear the 14kHz chords at 4:15

(LONELY ROLLING STAR)

also: did you ever notice the first note of the chorus has a microtonal harmony?

it’s funny how this jam only plays on a screen you see when you decide to quit the game. i clicked through it many times before noticing that it’s pretty good, especially cause the best part doesn’t start until 1:46

i looked up game footage of this out of curiosity and… it seems like this music actually fits it surprisingly well. gotta hand it to them, it seems like they really overachieved and succeeded in combining the cartoony kid game with the creepy and mysterious.

also might as well throw this nightmare fuel in here too

the tonic trouble soundtrack is subtle but quite good (both in the N64 and PC versions). same composer as Rayman 2 which is also a pretty good soundtrack

Ski Slope is some really catchy Danny Elfman Simpsons-core (quite brazenly at times), i love that little 7-note motif

the Canyon tracks have great vibes

ski slope in the PC version:

canyon (pc)

my dad bought me this game unexpectedly as a gift and i played about 30 mins of it before deciding i didn’t like it and wanted to trade in for something else, because i had no patience for anything that wasn’t pure uncut Nintendo or Rare at the time. i feel kind of bad about that in hindsight - i bet it was not bad. but in the little i played i remember wandering around being lost in a cave to a specific music track that got burned in my brain ever since (which i found out from this is “Doc’s Cave Pt. 3”). maybe it’s just the funky drum beat.

also had this game as a kid and you were right to trade it in. it’s not a bad game (imagine if Rayman 2 was weirdly sparse) BUT it had a glitch where saving at a certain point would set you back to the base health i.e. before you had any upgrades.

that save just happened to be one of the last in the game.

my mom was obsessed with this game and then hit that point and just had to give up, the game was not designed to be played with the starter health at the end game.

I know that folks here are a big fan of the Ultimate Card Games GBA OST and presumably the Ultimate Brain Games PSX OST as well. The composer, Zbigniew Siatecki, has been producing tracker music for a long time and apparently still puts stuff out on soundcloud randomly. This guy’s been uploading them to Youtube (with permission):

Some of the tracks actually seem to be early mixes or remixes of stuff in the Ultimate games, which is great. So yeah that’s my music sorted for the next hour or so

Oh and here’s nearly 2 hours of Nintendo DS bossanova from two fashion games I’d never heard of until today:

i’m taking this back, Dalv’s theme is a screamingly fun castlevania tribute. i think i judged the main melody before the theremin came in.
