some tunes that pricked my ears randomly going through wii homebrew stuff
kinda wrote off the Klonoa remake since I generally prefer PS1 graphics to this era but actually it’s very pretty
I like me some Richard Scarry so gave this a spin. the windows version has lyrics (“Jason the mason is on the roof” rattling around my head like some sort of McCartney as Q(anon) coded transmission) and I find myself making up lyrics while delivering the mail…
idk if I’ll stick with Lost Kingdoms right now, the gameplay doesn’t thrill me but it’s fine, very nice hypnagogic mood though and the music helps with that
Obsessed with the orgasm jumpscare at 1:33
Yeah, soundTeMP was pretty good at interjecting those questionable vocal samples into their tracks. Like the “So softly” from Through the Tower from RO.
Can’t get over this very dreamy MIDI ass Outrunners version of Last Wave. Maybe it hit me harder coming out of the speakers of the actual machine
the keyboard solo @ 2:35 is sublime
NeoToxin soundtrack (unreleased NES homebrew circa 2003)
Ben Houge, the composer of the Arcanum soundtrack, wrote about composing it on his website and he included this comment on the track, Wilderness
I also like the ambient, contemplative pacing of the “Wilderness” music; getting the timings of the silences just right was harder than writing the individual phrases!
It’s a great soundtrack, I have replayed arcanum so many times and have never tired of the music
This would have got me so excited over a decade ago. But I’m really happy they managed to get the album made after all this time. Excited to give it a listen as it lands.
I think I listen to the Vib-Ribbon soundtrack at least once a year. How much music is this playful?
i’ve avoided vib-ribbon all my life because any time any publication talks about it or anyone tries to sell you on it they go to the point about being able to load any music cd you want so you can play stages to music you actually like and somehow this led me to assume it has no musical identity of its own
now i’m feeling i’ve missed out
The soundtrack is so short so I get that the focus is on the disc swapping. It’s just ironic that most music will not feel as perfect as the few tracks they included.
however, those few tracks play with tempo/bpm to the extent that the algorithm that creates levels dynamically offers you a nice challenge that is still doable, whereas any track will be up to the deii ex machina if they work or are recurring sloppy levels.
also helps that the og tracks are a mood captured in time, and timeless at the same time, however that works.
Can confirm that they are a happy-go-lucky drop you need once or twice a year and manage to make me laugh when listening to it, be it due to remembering some of the wild gaming sessions surrounding it or just the brimming optimism ![]()
