we actually owned this game as a kid (my older brother got into NES collecting when it was cheap in the late 90’s) and the only reason i’d play it is to see how long into the music tracks i could get before dying
Oh hell yeah
I don’t really like the Secret of Mana soundtrack arranged; I think the warm fuzziness of the instrument samples in the original tracks helps with the green grass/blue skies Summer sound that a lot of the tracks have. But the part at 1:17 where the French horn does its thing is bad ass. I wish it rode that triumphant-ass French horn a little bit more before going all glittery.
That section at about 45 seconds in is wicked.
Last Bible 1’s OST is pretty wicked, it’s too bad the sequels didn’t have as many stand-out tracks.
New (to me) Mario Kart tracks: Singapore Speedway sounds like some Sonic stuff while Amsterdam Drift is kinda weird.
pretty sure this is my favourite track in SotN. the acoustics from :30-53 are really good in a way that fits the castle, with the strings ‘breathing’ into the mix behind the other instruments like a draught reminding you of the outside, and the keyboard dropping in at the front to complement it with a more internal pulse. it’s hard not to picture burning sconces and stone floors while listening.

Super Mario Bros. (NES)
I just can’t get over the cover art. Now there’s two axes! Because it’s legendary axe two! And yet, you don’t get an axe…
you can get an axe as one of three weapons but yeah you start with a sword and your rival only ever uses a sword!
