Aaaaaa yeah. I actually do dislike the existing aesthetic quite a bit after liking TNNS. All-vector art sounds great.
And Mame now has amazing vector screen shaders; Iād flicker it a bit more but the luminous lines are entrancing.
holy crap we had 8 or 9 concurrent players on videoball last night on steam. we actually had to make two 2v2s! iām not going to say the game is taking off, but we seem to be forming a solid group of folks who are willing to play multiple times a week. feels good.
yeah, we can play 2v2 on ps4 everyday now without much hassle. thereās a good little core of players who donāt seem like theyāre going anywhere, hopefully it can keep building.
I am VIDEOBALLād up. canāt seem to find a match on PS4 online via search function. is the patch included in the regular PS Store download at this point? or is it just hard to find people at this point
itās still hard to find people just by searching in the game; youāll want to be in the videoball discord to find matches! everyoneās pretty good at broadcasting when theyāre online and ready to ball. thatās the best way to find videoball matches right now
And the ps4 videoball community.
vikram and I played in a draw yesterday!
game is the shit, the tits, the beeās knees, et cetera.
I love the sound design. the music is etched across my brain and it has some of the greatest announcing Iāve ever heard in a game. the clinks and plinks are their own kind of music.
my one main complaint though, aside from the lack of a ācancelā button in the menus, is that I wish the random map selections for online play (PS4) were more varied and/or were chooseable. thereās a bunch of local maps that just never get used online. I assume thereās a reason for that but I wish it were not so.
yep, itās really unfortunate
also I donāt know how the majority of people feel but I prefer Big. feels like a major league stadium
weāve had many long discussions over maps and their variants.
the steam communityās consensuses regarding the 2v2 rotation maps are as follows:
- Basic - favors offense over defense, fast-paced, square value lower than average, slam/L3 value higher than average. all the special goal types are far more common on this map than any other. shortest game lengths by far (60 seconds or less game times are possible)
- Basic Big - similar to Basic but defensive tactics are more viable. slams are less valuable than on Basic for scoring, but more or equally valuable for zoning or pressuring. more balanced than Basic but longer game lengths
- Pro - strongly favors defense over offense. squares are incredibly valuable, slams are far riskier and consistent L2s and tackles are utterly vital for high performance. long game lengths
- Pro Big - the most defensive map. scoring is very difficult. squares are very valuable if you have time to make them. slams are a bit more valuable than in Pro due to distance from goal-to-goal and the difficulty of scoring reversal goals on this map. squares very valuable. game times extremely long
- Split - the most balanced map. fast-paced. equally favors offense and defense. squares are moderately valuable. slam dunks are very valuable. widely considered the best map in the pool. medium-short game length
- Split Big - helps cover up some of of splitās weaknesses (the ease of slam dunks), but scoring is significantly more difficult. squares are perhaps more valuable and games are a bit longer than Split. defensive tactics more viable. medium game length. more defensive-minded players may prefer this map to Split.
I think the general feel amongst steam players is the big stages are boring, which I get, but I do enjoy the slower territorial battles you get in big. still prefer regular though.
it would be great to have a few of the weirder stages filter through in online, yeah. even though itās kind of a nightmare to play itās fun to get the stage with the horizontal barrier through the middle in 3v3
here are some matches from yesterday
Man I love the slower pace of the Big stages, the long games, the trench warfare. Defense becomes name of the game. Videoball is never boring. When scoring becomes a Big deal (as in soccer) and feels like a real accomplishment, is the most satisfying. Small Basic is just chaos and confusion. Goals just happen. Still fun but I get more out of the Big strategic maps.
Iād say that the more you play the less the small stages feel like chaos. basic small is like boxing, punch and counterpunch. land your punches to throw your opponent off balance, deflect and evade your opponents punches to redirect the momentum.
we actually donāt mind the big stages on steam - weāre just often anti-Pro, since our defensive games are so on point that it often results in 5-10+ minute games. itās great for awhile, but eventually it just kind of bogs the game down - if you play 10 games, and are served 5 basic and 5 pro, you will spend something like 66%+ of your time on the pro maps; yet they are weighted equally.
goals never just happen! it only seems like they do at first
haha, we had a weird round on ps4 last week where it was only serving up pro and pro big. we played six games in a row before switching hosts (which fixed it).
I like playing with you all-monsters my whole crew does we just wish the lag wasnt horrible.
Hoping the coming soon final patch for consoles is coming soon.
iām assuming that is the patch that steam already received?
