Vertical Orientation

Portrait videogames that are not self-scrolling vertical shmups. I think run’n’gun-type things can still qualify. Preferably pretty. Probably makes sense to exclude everything mobile.

SHOCK TROOPERS?

Those are horizontal games, my friend.

Does WonderSwan count as mobile? In any case, the majority of games on the system are played in landscape, but it is perfectly playable in both. Out of the first 23 games released for it, the two played entirely in portrait are:

Games that include occasional sections in portrait are:

  • Kosodate Quiz Dokodemo My Angel: normally, it is a quiz game played in landscape, but between rounds you may be asked to play a mini game which can be in portrait
  • Kaze no Klonoa: Moonlight Museum: some of the levels in the game are in portrait for no apparent reason; perhaps it’s meant to be a parallel to the paintings in the museum being in different orientations (video is coming this weekend)
