Valve is capable of making new games? (Deadlock)

Holy shit this is way more like Dota than I expected

That’s a good thing, to me

It’s Dota 3(-D)!

Finally got to play as Ivy. Doing support is fun. This might be more fun when I get better at it

this game is just dota with a tps control scheme, hated it. Fast Action Real Time Strategy is not for me. Adding it to any other game just creates a toothpaste and vinegar combo.

spectating a match and seeing that the map has a throw pit

this is a MOBA-ass MOBA

(thank you mysterious benefactor who definitely isn’t @HOBO )

i know i joke about the gabe newell yacht fund but i kind of genuinely think it would have worked out better for the whole culture if they’d just spent all this money on cocaine

i find it very funny that they spend all this time and energy making cancelled nonsense for 20 years only to release a thing that is ‘hey, what if we combine our other two games?’ like everyone else

I want to see the Fairy game so badly.

this game sucked ass and was total dogshit until we all figured out how to actually play it

shocking that something becomes more fun as soon as you start to understand it, a thing i should be telling myself more when i play fighting games

Yeah! I think it’s quite good, and fulfills a promise of an action-oriented MOBA that somehow no company has successfully pulled off? It’s derivative in a way that actually iterates and improves upon the core formula of the games it’s imitating, recontextualizing mechanics in interesting ways.

Sounds like this is shaping up to be as good as the demo for Savage.

It’s hard to tell how this fits into Valve’s strategy. Like, they don’t really need a DOTA 2 successor yet but maybe they will in the next few years (and how can they be sure this is what that looks like?). The relentless R&D process must be frustrating given their old products have such longevity.

Landed a game winnning ult last night and it felt amazing

I understand not wanting to put in the time or effort to actually learn how to play a game – especially when it’s a game that may be superficially similar to other games you like but its mechanics are different enough that it’s an immediate turn off – but this shit is great, top tier making-opponents-miserable game so far

I have a bunch of issues with it – like, the HUD fuckin sucks hard – but I imagine they’ll address them eventually

the gargoyle is like the only character design where i felt neutral instead of general antipathy, i can’t decide if that’s surprising or not, maybe a low baseline is how they’ll sell hats or something

won two games in a row last night hell yeah!!! would have been three had half the team not decided that they would rather go off and fucking choke their chickens or some shit instead of win the damn game!

i have, like, almost zero moba experience, so playing this has been a bit of a culture shock. i have to break the mentality of playing the game like a straight-up shooter. but i think i’m slowly getting it, maybe.

something i found out last night that the game doesn’t really tell you: melee is extremely powerful. a fully charged punch takes a nice chunk of health off an enemy.

oh no yall i JUST uninstalled heroes of the storm

Melee also prevents the “deny orb” from appearing; you always get the full value of a creep kill if you melee kill it.
