U enter, lad
I just replayed chapters 1 and 2 because I lost my old save. They hold up pretty well!
I’m pretty much exactly where RT-55J is in Chapter 3 and I’m enjoying it a lot so far too. The secret game in the S-rank room was a very cool moment (especially blasting through trees to go out of bounds and find the ice key). Interesting how that bit resonates with the “weird route” in ch 2.
i appreciate the public service toby did by personally executing every self-proclaimed fan theorist at the end of chapter 3.
(despite someone on discord saying “i was obligated to play this because a couple of my friends worked on this” i was not prepared for a couple of names in the credits – the internet is too small)
chapter 4 seems cute so far
Last night I had a dream where I watched an episode of Ducktales for the first time since I was a kid, and I was utterly transfixed by it; it was the greatest television I’ve ever seen. I blame the fact that I’m halfway through chapter 3 of this game.
i like this arrangement by MelonadeM that takes a song with the classic TMNT orch hit to its logical conclusion (ch 3 spoilers)
This might be old news, but I noticed on the chapter select menu that there’s a glowshard tracker (for the extra bosses) in the bottom right corner, but there appears to be space for 8 glowshards (ignoring the one in the middle that I think just acts as an icon), and not the expected number of 7.
Just so you know, each row corresponds to the shadow crystal in each save slot. Try copying a chapter file to slot 3, for instance.
Also the “Glowshard” is a sellable item described as “Value increases every chapter”.
oh. i guess i completely misinterpreted that diagram. it looked like this for me and i guess my brain instantly made some wild assumptions (also dang i can’t believe i also misnamed the item lol):

truly, i don’t have the chops to be one of those youtube fan theorists
I love how it’s abundantly obvious to anyone and everyone who’s played the whole chapter that this isn’t what the question is referring to, but the answer is interesting enough that the casual reader is none the wiser.
Woof, that chapter 3 secret boss was no joke.
Anyone catch the subtle Earthbound reference during Tenna’s speech before his fight? “There are still games to play! Shows to watch! Laughs and screams! Smiles and tears!” I enjoyed the way chapter 3 interrogated different kinds of relationships with TV and video games. How entertainment is only really meaningful when you share it with others. A relationship just between yourself and a video game is no relationship at all, but when you build friendship and community around a game, that can be deeply meaningful. Toby Fox knows that better than anyone; his roots are so deep in the Earthbound fan community.
i finished chapter 4 today, and hoooo boy is this a videogame (compliment)
susie is my favorite character — i love how she stares at the cosmology of this world head on, and has nothing more than a steeled determination to destroy the injustice inherent to it
gerson boom is my kind of theologian
regarding the prophecy, i think it’s very funny that the hidden stained-glass piece depicting “the Angel” is obscured by some pitch black foreground elements, so (under ideal viewing conditions) you’re just looking at yourself in a Black Mirror (because the Angel is you, dummy) (i love hamfisted subtext like this)
hoping toby keeps being able to cash out the checks he’s been writing with this plot
(maybe i should go back and get the shadow crystal in chapter 3 in the meantime)
BTW, did you guys notice when you pick your 3-letter name for that segment, there’s no G available for the third letter? I wanted to do DOG…
my best guess was that it was a clumsy way to avoid that one slur, but who knows
but that would also prevent you from typing in EGG…
…the plot thickens
Most effed up thing I’ve learned today is that Gerson Boom and his son are named after Smash 64 competitors, including world #2 SuPeRbOoMfAn aka “Boom”

and… in his boss fight… you aren’t allowed to use items………………………………
