I should probably shut up about disc prices when the cheapest player is 200 bucks and the cheapest player with Dolby Vision is five-hundred dollars

Nice apparently I got a dolby vision one before they went way up in price
I have a stack of dumb movies, the glowing plot objects in Heavy Metal and the 80s Transformers movie are much more imposing in HDR, the neon in Streets of Fire pops
All the stuff from parker’s NAS has effectively overwhelmed the need for any more discs but sometimes physical is nice, nobody’s sad about more bitrate

am i really supposed to have a standalone blu ray player for them, every time i put one in an xbox or a playstation it’s like pulling teeth

I keep thinking about getting a standalone player, but less for UHDs and more one of those hacky region free players, buy some out of print in the US but still in Australia anime, some cheap UK copies of kung fu movies, that sort of thing.
I could also learn how to pirate…that would probably be cheaper.
