Yeah, I kinda wish they weren’t patching these games unless there was something that literally breaks the game just to keep that retro feel
oh cool they threw out all the balancing work they did for a 20 hour game for the sake of a bugfix cool cool
popping out of a coffin is a western trope, even
mockup of what a famicom port of planet zoldath might have looked like:
(I like to imagine that this is where Pilot’s later design originated from.)
anyhow, after a 3 month break i finally completed it:
there’s still like a dozen screens i have no idea how to access
top shelf vidcon
I got this installed on one of my Anbernic handhelds yesterday, which feels like some forbidden magic sort of stuff.
The Portmaster notes say that some of the games with larger areas don’t work as well, and that for it to work on the measly chipset the audio has to be compressed a good deal, but I didn’t notice too much difference (then again, I only played a little Barbuta).
Anyway, neat way to play it on the go without lugging a Steam Deck (or I guess waiting for a Switch version…surely that’s gotta be in the works…).
cherried Warptank a few days ago…
for my first appearance on this week’s Eggplant podcast’s discussion of Warptank, which you can listen to here if you’re interested!:
going to be on their episode next week about Waldorf’s Journey as well
Mini and Max sure is something, huh?
yes! maybe my favorite game in the set? it def stands on its own as like a very interesting indie puzzle platformer. and Rail Heist are at the very top for me.
also i was very excited to be on the Eggplant podcast yet again to talk about Waldorf’s Journey, a favorite game for me. Ben Esposito of Neon White and Arcane Kids fame was also on this episode
atm, Pilot’s Quest is the most-played contender out of all 50 titles so far, even when i only played it for the first time yesterday.
This somehow pushes the right buttons to make me go
The thing about Pilot Quest is it had a way of creating this miasma of FOMO while I was playing the other games. “Have I got enough by now to buy the next upgrade?” “I could be earning more resources right now if I improved my pilotville a bit more”.
Midway through, I started to kind of hate it and wanted to just gold it ASAP and never think about it again. Which made it dig its hooks into me all the more
fwiw, took a break from Pilot’s Quest today and since i had NOTHING better to do, why not give Interstellar a rewatch.
THIS GAME
IT DOES THINGS IN MY BRAIN
I played a lot of Rock On Island this weekend. It’s part of my recent thing of trying to complete games with saves. It’s kind of weak in that it’s just a tower defense game, but I still enjoy the Q&A phenom of going to sleep after losing a round and waking up with a winning strategy. The last level is very daunting. I’ve made it to the final wave but got crushed.
BOOTED UP CAMPANELLA 1 AND ACTUALLY NOTICED THE FREAKING WARPS FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER LET’S GOOOOO
*doesn’t actually get any further than last time*
Yeah the tradeoff on missing all those extra lives doesn’t seem worth it.
First one I’d get gold for indeed is Pilot Quest.
Of course I would — endgame spoilers ahead —
meet this Norrok? Black&White Dude in my last run to collect more bucks for ship’s fuel, defeated him just to get a ‘come and find my doll elsewhere’ msg:
No thanks i’m good, took me 16h and 40mins already. As it turns outbafter the credits rolled you crash again on the same planet, and they have added three levelup machines plus a few new items to grind for… the grind never stops.
Still loving it tho, and will come back to it … later.
So hej, Golf🏌️.
