TV Party (Part 1)

yeah this was my immediate thought upon seeing that LA Times thing a few days back. i didn’t bother reading it, but i assumed it either omitted all of this information or doesn’t bother trying to resolve it for the purposes of a topical news blurb

The show runner & most of the writers r US private school/USC kids with meaningless credits, the directors r longtime tv workmen. Same as it ever was.

It’s the guy known for Max Steel and that one arc of X-Men where Weapon X is an underage escort, and some producer known for the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies, it had everything to fail.

Freddie Wong woulda done a better job. Justice for Freddie

Nah, I think this is exactly what Freddie Wong would’ve done and that’s the problem. Dudes who can make a minute long action scene compelling can’t necessarily make a full length anything work.

Maybe I should’ve wrote it like, even Freddie Wong would do a better job than this

I feel like a lot of ppl who watch anime go thru a short phase where they think…damn, I should dress exactly like that it’ll be dope. And Netflix cowboy bebop is that impulse expanded to the production of an entire television series.

It’s important to get 8K cameras so you have +/- 180 degrees of potential Dutch angles to work with in the edit.

Once per year I break my No Netflix Original Production rule and watch a show, so this year I’m watching Midnight Mass and think it’s pretty cool so far. Maybe too much monologuing tho.

John Cho is way too old looking for Spike Spiegel. Probably not an uncommon opinion.

I guess I will inaugurate this extremely cursed image into the thread

we at least dodged that bullet

My biggest beef is that Spike is portrayed as too quippy and affable.

He’s charming in the original, but more aloof. The show has bigger problems but that bugged me in pretty much every episode.

I would take loathsome Cumberbatch Spike over the Ed we got every time. The bullet we caught is so much worse

spike should be jewish

He’s modelled on Elliot Gould from The Long Goodbye.

still not quite all the way through this but yeah i really enjoy its basic deal. i’m not a huge horror buff so the monologues aren’t putting me off too badly. and the priest guy’s performance is just spectacular, my god

I adore the priest too.

I’ve been watching Nathan For You for the first time. This show… 1/3 of episodes are so awkward and seemingly unethical that I have a tough time watching them. Another third are cringey but pretty funny. And the last third are staggering works of genius (the lie detector one, the hiking to get a discount one, the Dumb Starbucks one). That last third is keeping me going. I also hear that the show gets somehow really positive and sentimental by the end? I’ll believe it when I see it.

I heard a rumor that Nathan Fielder is a comrade, so that’s cool. I guess it makes sense, nobody else has terrorized small business owners that hard since the 20th century. He does appear in a show that Means TV acquired.

yeah I also find the show actually too cruel way too much of the time to watch, I gotta get the hits secondhand
