Watching The X-Files for the first time with some friends. Really enjoying it so far. I recall a few here and there from when I was a kid, but not much.
I’ve heard that the mythology eps are a lot weaker than the standalone ones, which seems pretty true so far. I love the dynamic between Mulder and Scully.
Favorite one so far’s the Loch Ness monster ep, specifically the scene with Mulder and Scully stuck on a rock in a lake for a night, just talking about shit.
i was telling someone that there was a nu-doctor who episode where he gets turned into a horrible little cgi dobby gremlin and then locked in a birdcage and then everyone on earth has to watch doctor who at the same time and “believe” to turn him back to normal and they accused me of making it up… firstly i could never invent anything as obscene
i think of this a lot. this was the turning point for me (specifically the everyone “has to believe in the doctor” thing) where i was like “oh yeah, this is a kid’s show huh?” what a dumb, dumb show.
imagining a man in a foil lined red velour cape called The Apple because he has powers of temptation over all women (as daughters of the biblical Eve you see) and the entire four episode serial is a build up to him dying in a way that makes the doctor say “i guess the apple didn’t fall far from the tree”
the trailer in general is much better than that first clip they released but they had to sneak this in there just to remind everyone that ultimately this is all about beating robert rodriguez at his own game
Watching Seinfeld like, 2 episodes a week. God that show is funny, but it’s telling how much it was the George and Seinfeld show at first. I need more Elaine!!!
i watched all of Maya and the Three on Netflix. was pretty good despite a meandering, awkward start. i dig the mix of mayan and aztec mythology, the unique designs of the gods. the CG ain’t bad either. but yeah the first episode or two don’t work particularly well on their own and the VA for maya is kind of obnox. otherwise decent!
Enjoyed the CG He-Man series on Netflix, was pretty fun and a good thing to just have on in the background. There’s a lot more meat on the bone with the Kevin Smith one, but both successfully embrace the weird-ass world of Eternia and have fun with the concept, and that’s really the key here. Crucially, both Skeletors absolutely nail it, which is frankly the entire reason I like He-Man.
Also continuing to power through Foundation. On ep 5 now. It’s just, unending exposition. Fascinating world, great acting, great sets, great effects, but god damn, this is like having someone read a chapter of the book to you in one go and you’re meant to just retain it all. Really doesn’t work as a TV show.
