thank goodness. from the pilot it seemed like it could go either way, like, another one for the “glengarry glen ross is my comfort movie” crowd or a period piece about doomed losers (wink)
I had fun with it. And will assert the performances are great. But yes, I think that’s a fair assessment.

hmm i hate mad men but for better and worse i am interested in the computer
most of the first season is absolutely like this
by the end of the show they got much better at giving their audience what they want (Mackenzie Davis listening to slanted and enchanted in her underwear)

the second season felt frustrating because we had this total wish fulfillment scenario of the scrappy underdogs running their little faux-sierra bbs which was at least fun to watch but it still occasionally cut to lee pace being a piece of shit and expecting me to care about that
I wouldn’t give it any more of my time so I never watched the last two seasons

I think Lee Pace has got to be one of the most underused actors out there. what’s he even done since like, The Fall that hasn’t seemed like crappy material for him
people keep typecasting him as “preternaturally attractive and self assured guy” when he’s actually just gay? might be bad generational timing honestly, since he started his career when that was still like an asset to passing

Yeah I get that this is the real appeal of the show — I am not immune to propaganda — but I never get into media that’s really about pandering to thirst but insisting its something else.
Halt and Catch Fire at its best is moé and at its worst is diet Mad Men.

Lee Pace is one of those actors who is extremely charismatic and memorable but only rarely plays characters that don’t grate on me, probably because he keeps getting typecast wrong as you say.

Some dude (idk him) and Mari Yaguchi (from Morning Musume fame) as a host, and a wonderful bizarre cast you couldn’t find anywhere else than in Japan?
Honestly, never have been rooting more for a LGBT couple than in this dating show, and because it is coming from Japan, it is even more surprising how graceful it handles them after a rocky start and some almost mean spirited jokes in the beginning. They were so cute 
Bottom of the barrel-material, but has heart when you expect it least, and that’s something in our day and age.
long story short, Crooks delivers!
Feels like a vintage french Heist flick at times, then dips into Bud Spencer slapstick, before dialing the violence up a notch or two again. Recommended!
homicide finally managed to come out on streaming and it’s the first HD version of the thing but it’s all the usual fucked up music licensing and “make it 16:9 for no reason” stuff that these services do.
