I watched TD4 over the past week. I thought it was decent.
There are a lot of nice images when they show random scenery between cuts. I guess that’s something that’s been consistently good across all the seasons even when other aspects have fallen short.
A lot of the writing felt pretty forced to me, as if they were determined above all to make sure it’s clear that this is
- An HBO show.
- A True Detective show.
- A serious show that deals with serious issues.
One thing I found odd is the inclusion of super generic horror movie jump scare-type scenes. They weren’t even scary, just kind of silly.
I thought the actors did a good job with the material they had and the story held my interest to the end (though I sometimes ran it at 1.5 speed).
