A neat yet very retro idea. Was this better than using a QR code or something? Dunno how big the data was for these stages.

The original DS didn’t have a camera. Sound was basically the only way in.

i think if u do that theres the onus is on u to prove u translated anything or have a conception of translation rather than edit & punch up. “purist” is eliding a lot there.

As someone that has actually played SegaGaGa, translating it is a madman’s path especially 26 years later. It is fullof 1999-2000 2chan/otaku injoke and references. You’d have to localize it for it to make any sense at all. Expecting machine translate to fix it is even more absurd and I’ve already seen results that are like “you morons don’t know the first thing about Japan that didn’t come out of an anime girl’s oppai.*”

A good thing to come out of this situation is that now there’s tools available to edit the game so people in the future could give it a proper translation.
That was the big hurdle Adiligian wasn’t able to cross when he was doing his own Segagaga translation decades ago.
