I want to make a version of Christian Marclay’s The Clock using video games instead of film and tv. I’m going to need a lot of clocks / watches / characters saying the time and this seemed like a good place to ask. Here is the spreadsheet I’m working on. If I can get it to about 50% complete I’ll start collecting video for an 1 or 2 hour test section. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XcTIYNYfHF9TNz0AT6JsPK5qt5FTIdoDlQ4hcjXhNbs/edit?usp=sharing

If a game has a puzzle that requires adjusting clock hands, can that fill in a gap that you can’t find otherwise? Or would only the initial and final times shown on the clock count? Eternal Darkness has a clock puzzle of this type, for example.

Thanks. I’d want initial or final times in those cases. Preferably the clock is in the background and other stuff is going on. It doesn’t have to be on screen for the whole duration of the shot. No HUD clocks either.

Good luck D:

You’ve got a much less diverse range of content to draw from D:

I don’t have a grasp of what goes on at, say, 2AM in videogames, so the result should be interesting D:

If nothing else there’s 13 minutes of The Last Of Us intro which takes place at 2:15am.

This is an incredible project. Will keep an eye out for you.

Short Trip by Alex Perrin https://alexanderperrin.com.au/paper/shorttrip/

edit: the clock seems to be different every time you play… I’m not sure how it chooses the time. Could just be random. I’ll ask Alex Perrin!

Thanks! I played this game recently and somehow missed the clock. I should be able to fill a pleasant minute or two with this one. Seems like it uses the system time.

Off the top of my head, Deus Ex Invisible War starts at 5:15AM, and the clock in P.T. can be either 11:59 or 12:00 depending on in-game events.

To me, Marclay’s clock is a statement on the linear nature of film–constantly moving but at paces the audience can rarely interpret. Games run off of player-time™ which suspends environments into tableau that have to be solved in order to proceed.

You have the Splash Garden clock from NiGHTS in there, but also potentially of use is the alarm egg that chases you around when you’re on foot. It has a stylized clock face on it with constantly winding hands. You can see it in this video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SDTbJlfHquM
