Non-Amazon e-ink device is >>>>> more interesting than large iOS device. I did a year of school with 2016 iPad Pro w/ keyboard case and pencil and it just made me want a MacBook.

If you’re an artist this is obviously different but all I want to do is annotate PDFs.

I would’ve told you about this earlier! it rules

I just wish they’d somehow directly integrate with zotero or https://obsidian.md

I look forward to using Procreate but never learning how it actually works

Earlier today I realized I was hand drawing pixel text for the billionth time when I could probably use the internet to see if it’s possible to fix my font rendering issues in both Aseprite and Clip Studio

But then I didn’t do that, I kept drawing the letters, I am so glad I don’t have a child, they would never stop roasting me for all these horrible habits I’ve accumulated

it’s very depressing that I am so utterly incapable an artist that even with an ipad and a pencil I could never justify spending $10 on procreate

I have an iPad 2 that is now a full decade old which I originally bought for gaming (?) and is still very useful for reading comics and as an additional monitor that can receive iMessages while at a windows machine, which is 2/3 of what I would use a new iPad for.

omg you need GUID to boot intel damn it, i just thought it would… never mind lol

OK maybe this time it will work. in the interim, at least tiger server really is pretty zippy on this thing. god i’ve missed macs

thinking about old macs and wondering how I, noctua and closed back headphone enthusiast ever coped with my g5

well this thing is kinda fun to play with but it is one of those defective imacs with either a bad logic board or some other blatant defect. it shuts itself off if you start playing most games (not all games…? anything with 3D seems to kill it rapidly, with some exceptions? for some reason Bone by Telltale Games seemed to be stable for a few minutes despite being 3D).

tried pegging all the fans at max RPM with macsfancontrol, but no dice, Oolite (an extremely non-intense 3D game, clone of the old BBC Micro spaceflight/trader sim Elite) and XMoto (open-source 2D motorbike platformer) both caused the iMac to nope the fuck out. i’ll be redoing the thermal paste at some point if i can be bothered to open this thing up after all, but i’m not hopeful this will make any difference… this model is allegedly exquisitely scuffed and there’s probably very little i can do about it RIP

oh well maybe i can still use it for some non-graphical things, it has seemed stable otherwise

new approach - gonna move the integrated graphics .kext out of the extensions folder and see if i can get it to just ignore that thing entirely. it might actually survive that way…

you don’t want to run snow leopard without any kind of hardware acceleration, trust me, I remember hackintosh in those days

On the plus side, if you hold option while doing expose it does it in slow motion

yeeaaaaaah it’s a joker’s trick

it does at least run stable with the .kext removed… just slow as piss

Hahaha did you enable the pseudo-loc locale or did they?

it wasn’t me! this is the only UI string I’ve seen in this locale

This pseudo loc is a crime against languages but it also presumably exists to make sure that no crimes against language actually make it to a real localization so I’m unable to decide whether it’s evil or not

I just have to wonder how it works for anyone testing Windows’ screen reader
