You can get GT1030s new for under $100. They’re maybe 2x as good as regular intel integrated graphics, but they are better than GT710s.
A 1070 will probably be better, tho. W/ ur processor and ram u’ll be able to play all the PS4 gen games at really good settings which is something that the 1030 will struggle with, and I bet it won’t look bad for next gen games, either.
kind of annoyed that microsoft are dropping support for old edge in march mostly b/c it’s the only way to get hardware accelerated widevine decoding on windows if you don’t have a kabylake or newer intel GPU (which is the only circumstance that chromium implements it, you’d think they’d at least support nvidia) and that’s gonna be a 3% penalty to my CPU for watching paid sports streams at all times
the good news is that chromium edge does have hevc hwdec (just with the same limitations on encrypted video), which is not surprising, those code paths are basically identical to h264 at this point, google just doesn’t want to license it
I scanned with two different antivirus programs and they gave me nothing. Bitdefender was blocking PowerShell from executing, so I’m not sure if it did anything else, but I’m not seeing anything.
There’s some mouse talk in methods of input, but it’s very broad.
Wireless? For games or work?
Logitech double click issues appear to arise because of undervolting Omron switches in their wireless mice. I use a GPW with the switches swapped with Kailhs.
Razer’s recent mice have been great - optical switches won’t double click and they’re much lighter than most mice.
i’ll probably never buy anything but whatever logitech’s currently calling their full-fat freewheel+clutch scrolling mouse again, it is worth it even if they wear out every few years
they should build these weighted free-spinning scrolling wheels into laptops, on the side next to the keyboard, heck maybe a couple of them spread around, swiping is undignified, scrolling is the primary method of interacting with computers there should be more thought put into it it could be better
Anyone ever experience problems with their builtin webcam? Mine is suddenly very stuttery and terrible. Do these things break down over time? Is there a virus that’s hacking my feed? I need a webcam and I’m very unsure what to do right now.
so my new build will occasionally shut off on a cold boot, at first i was getting the ‘new hardware or cmos cleared’ so i assumed either the battery is a dud or maybe an xmp thing
updated the bios a fortnight ago, not happened since!!! …until earlier, though this time i didn’t get the cmos cleared thing and my xmp and Sick Fan Curves were intact
if you hit the power button again, it always boots and is stable under hours of sustained load, good thermals etc. so struggling to diagnose this
IDK. Ive tested the webcam from a cold boot and it still happens. What’s weird is that it wasn’t doing this like a month ago. I tried rolling back drivers and that didn’t work
so firefox did their “oh btw we made a major rehaul of our UI” thing on the android version again, killed all open tabs in the process, shuffled all bookmarks into some random order and without any indication beforehand, of course. UMtarix didn’t work yesterday, so I avoid surfing without it atm… and that’s why you need a laptop with linux where you can lock updates.
Settings page for layout/UI is a joke as well, you can choose whether you want a lighter/darker theme, and the tabs at the bottom or top… and that’s it.
And of course the performance is worse now, because that’s why we happily upgrade, so that we have less Performance and less usability. Buttheads.
I’ve used FFox for closer to two decades now, but am finally running out of goodwill for the shit they are causing time and again, and it is unbelievable that Aza Razkin worked for that company, considering that his dad would rotate in his grave when they are aggressively disregarding multiple core rules he championed.
