you have to spend a lot to get a UPS that isn’t more of a nuisance than a help

This was the fanciest one they had before you got to like the 1000 watt ones with sideways fucking prongs on the socket or whatever

My internet is messed up. Can’t connect to some sites (too long to respond, mostly), some sites are intermittent, some work fine (maybe slow? not sure).

Sometimes SB seems to work, sometimes not, images which say amazon aws in their address always seem to always fail, avatars work ok for the most part. Don’t seem to have packet loss.

Tried to talk to support of isp and they tell me it’s the sim and i need a new sim (???). Anyone got a sensible idea? I feel like i want to flush a cache or something.

EDIT: seem to have fixed it (for now) by turning off the phone for 3 hours.

Because I’m a sucker, I guess, I spent a few hours last night trying to get a legitimate install of Microsoft Office to download and install and the motherfucker just wouldn’t and eventually the solution was to download some official Microsoft software recovery tool

what a clownshow

My little NUC steambox just got the latest Windows update and decided that after 7 years it doesn’t have a valid Windows license anymore. They don’t nag especially hard but every time I see it (I use it as a media streamer) I get so mad I just turn it off

What OS is this? If it’s Win7 based, then it’s actually insanely easy to “fix”. The piracy protection in Win7 is basically non-existent and easily gotten around.

No, I dutifully follow along and pushed all my machines to Windows 10

I do all my Canadian government work on a pirated windows 10

cannot give a fuck, it’s just easier this way

Microsoft doesn’t give a fuck if you pirate 10 or not

they know they got their hooks in you if you’re using 10 and that’s all that matters

way back when i last had a win32(64 whatever) machine i pirated 7 and then did the free upgrade thing to get a verified copy of 10, is that a possibility now

It shouldn’t be, according to the deadlines MS officially set, but apparently still works:

good to know

Anyone know what to do if your laptop fails a RAM memory check? I have 2 crucial DIMMs of 16GB 2133Mhz DDR4, and replacement is kinda high, also i’m not sure if I need to replace one or both which is kinda higher

  • do i need to fix this issue now?
  • can i just replace one stick? if so how do i figure out which one i need to replace?

Take one stick out. Re-run the RAM test. Swap the sticks out. Run the test again. Hopefully, only one of the sticks will fail. Worst case scenario, both fail.

If one is still good, 8GB (I’m going to assume you meant 2x8GB=16GB) RAM is enough to work a computer. You’ll definitely notice it, and it might be painful at times but it will work.

You’ll see stuff online saying you should buy RAM in pairs. This is generally best practice, but if you are concerned about cost, it’s not necessary, feel free to just replace the one.

I thought I was just tired or going insane but my work macbook really does run like dogshit at night

Night shift was causing windowserver to constantly use 60% cpu, whoops

It’s cheaper to put in a new m2 wifi card than to get either a PCIe card or USB bluetooth 5 dongle praise @Felix

just noticed this :face_vomiting:

This came back! It really sucks! “Solved” it by changing to 3G instead of 4G. Really curious about why that would happen.

Using 4g 3g as keywords i was able to find reports from other people on the same mobile network having the same problem.
