it would be awesome if every lime scooter battery exploded simultaneously
i had to check mine, I don’t think it’s included in the recall as none of the labels match the batteries from the notice. However I did end up going to the HQ in Ballard to get a spare key so I could detach mine and check the back and the mood there seems pretty dire.
Given its financial situation, Rad Power Bikes has indicated to CPSC that it is unable to offer replacement batteries or refunds to all consumers.
surely their business & liability insurance would cover this?? guess I know why it doesn’t
i would wish this but then i get really sad because i think of all the guys who have to pick them up and replace them every morning and how like every single one of those workers has their kid/s with them
that is why they are going to tell us the lime economy is load bearing in the future. because all those guys would lose their jobs. you cant build more public transit…think of the truck men.
thats fine. they can lose their jobs. EMP for rental scooters only
there’s like a big hubbub specifically about lime scooters and bikes in the DC area because “those people” (read: black DC residents, teens etc) ride them “dangerously”, something something “safety” something something “crime.” so they’ve unilaterally capped the speed of this specific brand for some reason
we have a local bikeshare (Capital Bikeshare / CaBi) i’m not sure why that’s not similarly under fire but let me not give the devil ideas
I think a big part of it is the dockless factor.
City officials worldwide hate the idea that these kinds of bikes and scooters don’t have a designated parking place, so they’re trying to find creative ways to shut them down.
The stand up lime scooters in particular are really dangerous since it’s easy to faceplant on one leading to head/face trauma.
I do wish ours had docks because they clog up the sidewalks. people leave them on lawns and in the middle of streets. It just feels so wasteful.
Additionally they cost about as much to use as an uber or other comperable rideshare given the time and distance. It basically makes it not worth it.
My experience with the lime scooters and bikes in seattle was that until the city started doing something about it you’d see people riding them way too fast on sidewalks all the time and getting mad at pedestrians when they’re supposed to be riding the things in the street. And yeah people just block sidewalks and curbs with them which fucking sucks. we don’t really need hundreds of them littered around like trash everywhere
there is a guy on my block in a wheelchair who I’ve seen knocking them over more than once because they completely block one of the most pedestrian heavy areas of Seattle constantly when lined up and tossed on the sidewalk. I’m constantly thinking emp for scooters only as a calming phrase
Tokyo’s equivalent to Lime scooters, called LUUP, don’t have docks but they do have designated parking spots, usually on the property of businesses.
It works pretty well but people still complain about them.
I feel like I remember watching a magnet fishing video on YouTube and the guy bemoaned how often he hauls ride-sharing bikes/scooters out of the water.
I’ve posted this before but my favorite fact about rental escooters is that the way they get redistributed is that people get hired to drive around in regular old gas guzzling pickup trucks in the middle of the night picking them all up and putting them back where they belong. Very green
Capital Bikeshare does a ‘bike angels’ program which extends your membership if you ride their bikes from overserved areas to underserved areas
i haven’t really used CaBi in anger because im still scared to ride on the road but i will… soon. i’m doing a recreational ride on my Fuji on a car-free street (Rock Creek Park) this weekend
LUUP has something similar where they just give you a very steep discount for doing that.
