and now i wonder if there will be a generation gap of kids who pronounce it with a long o
i’m thinking about maybe getting one because i’m really curious about the interactions/evolutions. it honestly seems a lot more advanced than a lot of phone virtual pets although this does also connect to an app
how often do you actually have to take care of these things? how much do they beep? is there a sleep mode? @boojiboy7 ? i think this is the english version of the recent tamagotchi “meets”
I recall Tamagotchis being kind of demanding with how frequently you had to take care of them. Though, I had Dinkie Dinos, which were kind of like a knock-off, so maybe it was just those. Digital pets always gave me this awful anxiety. Like, I don’t want it to die, but this thing needs to leave me the fuck alone for a few days. Kind of like Animal Crossing.
Were y’all the ones that had a thread about the complex and storied history of the connections and crossovers between tamagotchi and digimon, or did I read about that somewhere else?
It turns out it’s Mario party where every turn you also get five seconds of time to play Tamagotchi. I have no clue how the tama evolution impacts the game but this shit rules. If there is an n64 at the next meetup, or a good emulator, I would play the shit out of it with everyone.
Alright, so the rundown on this current new actually up to date Tama getting released:
This is the localized version of the Tamagotchi Meets, which came out in JPN last year. Comes in two flavors (Magic and Fairy) which only differ in terms of which Tamas you can get to mate with and probably a few different places to send your tama to meet others (and buy toys). The Meets is an updated version of the one I currently have, which is the Dream M!x. The Meets adds in pets your Tamas can have (I think) and the ability to have twin Tamas (I know).
Now, as for the experience of using the M!x, which most places say is pretty similar to using the Meets/On, I mostly wrote that up here:
There is a twitter thread linked in there if you want even more pics and stuff. I really love these things, and am hyped to play one in English, as my Katakana/hiragana knowledge could only go so far.
Tamagotchis were harder to come by and more expensive, but Cunningham’s Warehouse had stacks of these. They were horribly prone to being faulty, but you couldn’t get a refund, you could only get more Dinky Dinos
I liked that the evolutions were determined by their diet, so feeding mostly meat gave you a t-rex
